Alyssa's pov

I was watching Pidge and his team attempt the simulator with the rest of the class and Iverson, they weren't doing  too well.

"Look out for that overhang!" Pidge warned.

"No worries! My first year in flight school, you know what they called me? They called me 'The Tailor' because of how I thread the needle. Come around, come around! Come on, come on—!" Lance bragged then the ship struck the overhang.

"We lost a wing!" Hunk informed his team.

"Oh, man..." Lance said just when they were about to crash.

"Simulation Failed." The computer said.

"Nice work, Tailor." Pidge stated sarcastically.

The simulators doors open to reveal my best friend and his team with disappointed faces.

"Roll out, donkeys!" Iverson yelled, "Well let's see if we can't use this complete failure as a lesson for the rest of you students. Can anyone point out the mistakes these three so-called cadets made in the simulator?"

"The engineer puked in the main gearbox!" one student answered.

"Yes, as everyone knows, vomit is not an approved lubricant for engine systems. What else?" Iverson praised.

"The Comm Spec removed his safety harness." another student said.

"The pilot crashed!" pointed out a kid standing beside me.

"Correct. And worst of all, the whole jump, they're arguing with each other! Heck, if you're going to be this bad individually, you'd better at least be able to work as a team!  Galaxy Garrison exists to turn young cadets like you into the next generation of elite astro explorers, but these kind of mental mistakes are exactly what cost the lives of the men on the Kerberos Mission." Iverson continued.

Oh no he didn't, how could Iverson talk about Shiro and his team like that. I've known Shiro ever since I was 8, he was one of my sisters closest friends. Amaya, my sister, was devastated that Shiro supposedly 'died due to mental mistakes'. I was about to interrupt Iverson but Pidge beat me to it.

"That's not true, sir!" Pidge said anger visible on his face while fear on his teammates.

"What did you say?!" Iverson said furious.

"Sorry, sir! I-I-I think he may have hit his head when he fell out of his chair. But point taken." Lance said covering Pidge's mouth while he tried to continue but came out all muffled.

"I hope I don't need to remind you that the only reason your here is that the best pilot in your class had a discipline issue and flunked out. Don't follow in his footsteps. Next!" Iverson gritted through his teeth at Lance.

Lance's face fell and nodded suggesting he understood. Iverson was brutal I felt sorry for Pidge and his team, even though I knew Iverson was right.

Third person pov

Lance and Hunk were hiding behind the wall when they see Pidge and Alyssa sneaking out of Iverson's office.

"Where are they going?" Lance questioned.

Pidge and Alyssa were listening in to the Garrison's radio chatter through headphones and special equipment oblivious of their classmates behind them.

"You come up here to rock out?" Lance asked slightly taking Pidge's headphones off.

"Agh!—Oh, Lance, Hunk. No, um," Pidge said startled pleading Alyssa to say something.

"Just looking at stars." Alyssa butted in.

"Hey I'm Lance, you are?" Lance asked Alyssa.

"Alyssa Snow." Alyssa replied bluntly.

"And where'd you get this stuff? It doesn't look like Garrison tech." Lance questioned Pidge.

"I built it." Pidge answered proudly as Alyssa smiled at her friends happy face.

"You built all this?" Hunk asked edging his hand forwards to touch Pidge's equipment.

"Stop it! With this thing, I can scan all the way to the edge of the solar system." Pidge says slapping Hunks hand.

"That Right? All the way to Kerberos?" Lance said but Pidge didn't answer and looked away, "You go ballistic every time the instructors bring it up. What's your deal?"

Hunk goes in trying to touch the equipment but was scolded by Pidge, "—Second warning, Hunk!"

"Aw." Hunk said and stops.

"Look, Pidge, if we're going to bond as a team, we can't have any secrets." Lance explains.

"Fine. The world as you know it is about to change. The Kerberos Mission wasn't lost because of some malfunction or crew mistake—" Pidge started but stopped when he sees Hunk trying to touch his equipment again, "—STOP TOUCHING MY EQUIPMENT!!!"

Hunk groans but finally decides to give up.

"... So I've been scanning the system and picking up radio chatter." Pidge continues.

"Whoa, what? Aliens?!" Hunk asked in disbelief.

"OK, so you're insane. Got it." Lance stated.

"Oh, hush." Alyssa scolded Lance, earning a pout from him.

"I'm serious! They keep repeating one word: "Voltron". And tonight, it's going crazier than I have ever heard it." Pidge said.

"How crazy?" Lance asked but before Pidge or Alyssa could answer they heard alarms blaring and Iverson over the intercom.

"Attention, students. This is not a drill. We are on lockdown! Security situation Zulu Niner. Repeat: All students are to remain in barracks until further notice." Iverson's voice yelled.

A fiery object appears in the sky.

"It's a ship!" Alyssa said while looking through the binoculars towards the sky.

Lance takes the binoculars from Alyssa, "Holy crow! I can't believe what I'm seeing! That's not one of ours!"

"No. It's one of theirs." Pidge answers.

"So wait, there really are aliens out there?!" Hunk asked starting to freak out.

"We've gotta see that ship!" Pidge says.

"Heck yeah." Alyssa replied enthusiastically.

"Hunk, come on!" Lance called.

"Oh, this is the worst team-building exercise ever." Hunk said to himself and the four cadets run off to the crash site.
