we met
for the first time
one summer day
when you ran after me
to return
my lost glasses.
as the sun
blazed through August,
we unexpectedly met again
one autumn morning
when you asked me
for directions
while i was on my way
to work.
the feeling,
so familiar
yet
so foreign,
faded away
like the colours
of mother nature in November
and
into December's whiteness,
into one winter afternoon
when we met for the third time
at the store
where you paid for my umbrella
as i struggled
to find my wallet.
and just like before,
we left
without a hello or goodbye
until
one spring night
when i found you
waiting
at an intersection
on my way home
from the library.
As April's breeze
swept away
the elapsed time
to fill in
the distance between us,
we smiled,
knowingly,
at each other.
and as i walked
closer and closer
to you,
i thought back
to the times
when you came to me,
and wondered
why
it took me this long
to finally
come to you.
