They ran through the trees. No matter how much their legs ached or how their feet kept tripping on roots, they kept running.

We're not alone, were the words that kept echoing in Clarke's mind. We're not alone.
Her lungs heaved as if in any moment they could collapse and her heart felt like it could fly out from her chest. We're not alone.

Octavia fell in front of her, clutching the leg that the river creature had bitten. "Please," she gasped. "Just give me a moment."
"I think we lost whatever it was anyway," Finn said crouching beside Octavia.
"You mean whoever," Monty said. His face was pale and his hands shook. It wasn't everyday you saw your best friend impaled with a spear.

Clarke was just about to go comfort him when they heard a strangled cry. "Jasper," they all spoke at once. Before they could stop her she was sprinting back to the river.

She almost fell through the trees before Finn grabbed her arm. The spot where Jasper had collapsed was empty, yet the dirt looked disturbed and blood stained the ground. "He was right there," Finn pointed.
"Then where is he?" Monty whispered. Octavia let out a small whimper as she realized what Clarke had.
"They took him."

Bellamy stood by almost helplessly as Wells held the knife against Murphy's throat. He wasn't even sure how the fight had started or when the crowd had gathered but he was sure that one of the two boys who were going to help out on his mission, was going to die.

That was until the group that had gone to Mt. Weather came bursting through the trees, Griffin leading the pack. Her jaw dropped at the sight of Wells and Murphy.
"Let him go," she exclaimed. His jaw clenched as he shoved Murphy to the ground who quickly lunged at Wells. Bellamy stepped in between pushing Murphy back with a glare.

It was then that she saw his sister limping towards him.
Relief flooded him. "Octavia!" he ran to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders for support. "You alright?"
"I'm fine," she said although she couldn't stop the grimace from clouding her face. He then noted the groups empty hands.

"Where's the food?" he demanded.

"We didn't make it to Mt. Weather," Finn said from his spot on a log, head in his hands.
"Well what the hell happened then?"

"We were attacked," Clarke said. Their eyes met, their stare lingering for seconds too long until it seemed all he saw was blue, then she tore her gaze away.

"By what?" Wells questioned.
"More like who," spacewalker piped up. "When the last man from the ground died on the ark, he wasn't the last grounder."
"It's true," Clarke addressed the crowd, this time avoiding looking at Bellamy. "There are survivors, which can be good news considering we have a chance, radiation won't kill us."

"Bad news is, the grounders will."

Bellamy looked around at the faces processing this information, information that could make this journey a hell of a lot harder. They weren't alone. The thought almost scared him.

"Where's the kid with the goggles?" Wells asked.
Bellamy finally noticed the lacking of one person and his pale faced friend. Oh no, he thought.
"J.J..Jasper was h..hit," the princess stuttered. "They took him."
She looked at Wells but then grabbed his wrist. "Where's your wristband?"
"Ask him," he said bitterly, nodding his head in Bellamy's direction.

His weight shifted as her wrath was directed towards him. "How many?" She closed her eyes, fists clenched waiting for the result.
"Twenty four and counting," Murphy sneered. Her mouth widened, "You idiots."
Her next words were louder, directed at the crowd as much as they were directed towards him.

"Life support on the ark is failing! There's maybe enough oxygen for two or three more months. They sent us down here to see if earth is survivable and if they think we're all dying then they're not going to follow us down. We need the knowledge and skills that some of them have to face whatever is out there, without it we are as good as dead. If you take off your wristbands you're not just killing them, you're killing us."

"We're stronger than you may think..." Bellamy began.
"Before anything stupid comes out of his mouth," she cut him off. "Hear me out. How many of you have family up there?" Murmurs went through the crowd as heads were hung. "I want you to think about them."

He turned to glare at her as she stepped back. "Go right ahead," her eyes sparkled.
Biting his lip he continued.

"As I was saying, we are strong, stronger than they thought we would be. They sent us here because we were expendable. If they come down, the princess will have it easy, how many of you can say the same? That wristband on your wrist makes you a prisoner, but we are not prisoners anymore! They see we'll be pardoned from our crimes, I say you're not criminals! You're fighters, survivors, and we can survive without them no problem."

Cheers met the end of his speech yet he could tell some were still skeptical from what Griffin had said so he added, "Don't listen to her she's one of the privileged girls, she's weak."

Big mistake.

In a second Clarke had pulled a dagger from her boot and sent it flying, too fast for the gasps and screams to escape frightened mouths.
It landed on the tree behind him, mere millimeters from his head. His hand reached up to touch his right ear meeting a sticky substance. He pulled it back looking at his fingertips. Blood. The bitch had nicked him.

Holy shit.

"Ever seen a privileged girl do that?" she shouted, her voice shaking. The silence and widened eyes were her response.

"Thought so." And with that she strutted off not even offering a glance at his bleeding ear.

"She's got good aim," Murphy chuckled. "And an attitude to accompany it."
"Shut up," he hissed. Murphy raised his hands in defense as he walked away.

Bellamy pulled the dagger from the tree with shaking hands. The handle was black with a strong grip while the blade was a dark grey. This was no drop ship metal, this was handcrafted and very well made.
She had brought this down from the ark.
