Although the detective work hadn't been as straight forward as I had hoped, I had made some progress. 'Some' being the key word. As far as my investigating went, I had extracted the footage from Payton's computer and had reviewed it a few times with Kim. The license plate was clearly visible, though we already knew who's car it was so that proved to be no help. A visit to Adrian's house also didn't give us any hints, as Monica had also given her a vague answer about Adrian's whereabouts.

"He'll be back soon enough, I'm sure he's just gone out on another spontaneous camping trip with Noah and Jackson. I'll let you know as soon as he's back." Monica had flashed a quick smile before closing the door abruptly. Not much help when everyone except for me is in on what Adrian is up to. There had to be more to this story, a reason for why he wouldn't share anything with me. We had gotten so close so fast, and now it felt like we were worlds apart. Was it for my own good? My own safety? Maybe for both and more.

In other news, after much convincing from Kim, I had decided to join her and attend Tania's party. I know, that's not something I expected to agree to either; But here I am on a Saturday night, getting all dressed up to attend a party hosted by the most annoying girl at school. Some would argue that I was the holder of said position, but Tania was filling that spot up quite nicely in my books.

"Jeans and a tank top seem good enough?" I ask Kim, our eyes locking in the reflection of my mirror.

"Girl, you look hot no matter what you wear. Now come help me, my hair is a mess."

"Thanks Kimmy." I smile at her and begin parting her hair into sections to straighten. "I'm still finding it hard to believe we were even invited. Do you know how many people are going?"

"No less than the whole school knowing her. She invited us for quantity, but I'll take what I can get. You always end up leaving with a crazy story to tell. I'm interested in seeing who the main characters of this night's story will be."

"You really live for drama don't you?" I say with a small laugh.

"Don't we all live for it in secret?"

"Right, let's just pray we don't end up being the main characters for this one."

After straightening all of Kim's hair and getting her dressed up, we migrated downstairs to the living room to hang around until it was time to leave. Mom had invited Roger over for dinner so we decided to have a bite before going so we'd at least have something in our stomachs before filling ourselves with alcohol. Kim and I were currently seated in the living room with Roger, chatting about random things while we waited for mom to serve dinner.

"So, girls, how has school been treating you?"

"It's alright Mr.Davis, Maya and I have really been into the sports as always. Academically, I think we're doing good too." Kim answered first.

"Academically, my math skills have never sucked more."

"Kim, we've known each other a while now, no need to call me by my last name anymore, Roger is just fine!" He reassured her. "And Maya, if you're struggling with math, Payton could help you out."

"Me? Getting tutored in math by a thirteen year old? Now that's embarrassing."

"Nothing to be ashamed of, Payton would be more than happy to help you out with your studies. She enjoys numbers and math and whatnot, hell she studies it for fun. I mean, what kid studies math for fun?" He scrunched his eyebrows, scratching the back of his head.

"This one does." Payton appeared at the bottom of the stairway, pointing to herself as she came to join us in the living room. "I could help you if you need help, Maya."
