The first thing I thought of when I woke up was my pj's. I had to get them out of here before mom randomly decides to barge into my room and do one of her random drug sweeps- not that she's ever found anything before, though she's always been quite the suspicious woman. I quickly got out of bed, heading straight to the patio.
I noticed I had woken up feeling quite refreshed today, too. Happier than yesterday. I wonder if that was because of the weed? If so, then it really is some happy medicine.
The morning light blinded me as I pulled the curtains open, forcing me to stop and let my eyes focus for a few seconds. I rubbed my eyes as they adjusted to the brightness, before I walked out onto the patio. I looked at the floor, expecting to see my balled up pj's. Only they weren't there anymore. My head shot up as I looked around for wherever they could've went. My eyes locked on the carefully folded pj's placed on the railing. I walked over to the railing, scooping my pj's up and turning to walk back into my room. I gave them a quick sniff as I wondered how to get the stench out, when I stopped dead in my tracks. I sniffed the pj's again.
They didn't smell bad at all. Instead, they smelled of something more familiar. Or should I say someone. The pj's gave off the angelic smell of mint, which caught me off guard. Not only had Adrian washed my clothes for me, he actually folded them neatly and everything, and left them on my railing. My lips spread into a grateful smile at the thought of Adrian- and the uncalled favour, of course. But most of all I was surprised at the fact that he would do this for me.
"Honey! You awake?" Mom's voice along with her knock on my door snapped me out of my trance.
"Yeah mom!" I call out. I glance back at Adrian's patio once more before making my way back inside. I opened the door as mom walked in, a bright smile on her face.
"Morning honey. I just wanted to let you know breakfast will be ready in a few minutes, so get ready. You've also got track tryouts today, don't you?"
My eyes widen in surprise. I had totally forgotten about the tryouts!
"I'll be right down!" I say as I begin collecting my track clothes into a bag.
"Alright." Mom began walking out, closing the door behind her. She stopped mid way, her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. She gave the air a deep inhale, repeating the action a few times.
"Is everything okay?" I ask whilst watching her.
"Yeah just-" She sniffed again. "What is that smell?" She walked back in as she began circling around my room, sniffing the air in an attempt to find its source like a police dog. The goosebumps on my neck stood up as I realized I had left the patio doors open. Is it even possible for the smell to still be there? No, it can't be. My pj's are clean, and there is absolutely no way the smell is coming from outside.
She sighed, her hands resting on her hips. She had stopped in front of my laundry basket.
"Maya, what did I tell you about leaving your dirty laundry in there for weeks at a time?" She scolds. My eyes rolled back in relief as I exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding.
"It's only been three days, mom." I say as I toss a pair of running shoes into my bag.
"Doesn't smell like three days." She mumbles as she makes her way towards the door once again.
"I'll take care of it once I come back from the track meeting, I promise." We exchange one last smile before she shuts the door.

After a quick shower and a change of outfits, I decide to give Kim a call. After all, I needed my best supporter cheering me on at the tracks, and what better person than my dear Kimmy? I grab my phone from my nightstand and scroll through my contacts until I find Kim's name. Not that there were many contacts to go through, but that's besides the point. I press call and wait as the phone rings a few times, before she picks up.
