Diverge

I am lost in your shadow.
Always moving, always following.
Like darkness,
I cower from your gaze and hide behind your silhouette.
I am afraid of your silence.
Your deafening quiet that drowns out the world into colors of grey and blue.
I am only a phantom,
lurking behind you, mimicking your movements.
Like the rain,
I fall and shatter when your eyes rest upon me.
I am desperately afraid of the thoughts orbiting inside your mind,
and I wonder if I ever surface in the space of your consciousness—
left to wonder if I'll ever be loved by you.
For you are all of the cosmos:
your mind a waterfall of stars,
your mirth a stellar nova,
your kindness a moon illuminating the night.
You are a guidance amidst the grey waters of this cold and empty place.
And I am only your shadow,
morphing in the daylight, feeling safe in the dark's embrace.
Like the tides,
I push and pull against the emotions running rampant like rivers within my veins,
wishing to talk to you yet fearful of your judgements.
I crave the warmth you hold within your soul,
the celestial beauty that transcends all of time and space.
I'll remain lost in your shadow
until our paths
diverge
and move on.
