Scarlett's POV
"Seriously, Riley. I am lazz...yyyy." My groggy voice got cut off halfway through my sentence as she kicked me out and slammed the door against my face.
I can never convince Riley.
I stormed towards the store. We were having a girls' night out at a drive-in movie theatre and I was really excited. Little did I know that it was going to be the complete opposite.
Holding a bag of gummies, a cup full of popcorn chicken and two bottles of pepsi, I stood in the queue to pay my bill. The aroma of the crunchy popcorn chicken filled my nostrils. I wanted to eat them so badly.
Paying the bill, I pulled the door to get out. But as usual, the stupid me pushed the door which said 'push'. I found myself stumbling behind against a person.
A huge hand went over me and helped me push the door. Exiting out of the store and turning around, I was about to thank the guy. My smile faltered into a frown as soon as I saw the one and only Carter behind me.
"What are you doing here?" We both screamed at each other and then stood there for a few seconds, our mouths opening and closing like two fish. This was fucked up.
From my peripheral vision, I noticed a car moving away and distinctly recognised it as Riley's bright red car.
"That fucking imbecile", Carter muttered under his breath from beside me. I turned to tell him off for commenting about Riley in that manner but before I could open my mouth, he continued, "I can see Jayden beside her."
My heart stopped dead in my chest when I understood Riley's motive. She had planned this so that I would end up forcibly having to interact with Carter.
"See, this is all your fault. How dumb are you? Did you seriously not see it coming?" Carter questioned me angrily, placing his hands on his hips.
"Look who's talking. Even you couldn't see it coming. Wow, they played us well." I said, giving an exasperated sigh towards the end.
Carter rolled his eyes. "She is your friend. You should have known better."
I scoffed, giving him an incredulous look and asked, "What is Jayden to you then? Is he an honorary potato that you carry around?"
"At least people like potatoes, unlike your friend who is a brinjal", he retaliated.
We stood there for a few moments, glaring at each other thinking of more playground insults to throw at each other. I opened my mouth to spit out more insults when Carter suddenly placed his hand over my mouth smushing my lips, against his palm and said, "Let's compromise."
I tore his hand away from my mouth and teased, "Ooh, Carter is using big words. Do you even know the definition of compromise? But anyway, continue. I'm listening."
"How about we work together to reach Jayden and Riley to screw them over?" He suggested.
As much I felt repulsed to work with him, I had to agree. "Fine, what is your plan then?"
"We go to the drive-in, find them and yell at them." Carter said, sounding overconfident.
I narrowed my eyes at him and wondered out loud, "Nice, do you make such brainless plans as a business analyst? You must have been really successful."
Instead of retaliating, he went past me to a sleek looking car, making my jaw drop. I knew he was rich but not this rich. But even then I followed him because I wasn't planning on being stranded here.
He didn't say anything as I pulled open the door of the passenger seat, but just as I was halfway through, I heard him say, "This is my company's gift to me." He paused until he sat down in the driver's seat and while starting the car he said, "Because I am successful." He stressed on the last word, making me feel mocked.
