Halima's POV
After tossing on the bed and clutching my stomach everytime it rumbles, I finally stand up to go and apologize. I pick my phone the same time it rings. I look at the screen and it's a private number calling me. I hiss and ignore the call. But it doesn't stop even when the call ends and starts ringing again.
I groan and pick.
"Hello Halima. I suppose you don't know who I am. But don't worry, you'll know me today, let's meet at the back of your house in two hours." A deep but calm voice says. The voice sounds oddly familiar. My blood runs cold.
"Who... Who.. Who are you? Why should I meet you around 9pm? How'd you know my name?" I stutter.
"Calm down mi hermana, you'll get all your answers once we meet." He chuckles then ends the call. What was that?
I walk out of my room and sight mummy coming up the stairs. I run and engulf her in a hug only for her to push me away. I know she's angry at me so I try to hug her again but she holds me by the shoulder.
"Are you ready to apologize?" I nod in response and she lets go of my shoulders then walks away. I go to Lauratu's room and knock on the door.
She opens the door and I enter. It's my first time in her room. Her room is just like the other rooms in the house, air conditioned, with a queen sized bed, dressing mirror wardrobe. Infact everything my room has. It's painted milk like the other guest rooms while mine is chocolate with touches of silver.
I turn to face her.
"Erm, Lauratu I'm sorry."
"Bah komai ai {no problem}." she smiles at me.
"Thanks. Bari inje inci abinci {let me go and eat}." I turn to leave and come face to face with mummy.
"Halima as from now she's not just Lauratu. She's Aunty Lauratu." What is going on in this house?
I rush downstairs and enter the dining room. The scent of something delicious assaults my olfactory senses. I open the first warmer and I almost squeal in happiness.
Here in front of me, are parathas. I open another warmer and there is potato soup then in another mummy's signature mango harbenaro chicken parts.
I rush to the kitchen as if the food will run away and pick a plate. I put six parathas and a lot of potato soup with the mango harbanero chicken parts and sit down to munch on the delicacy.
I eat it all and keep my plate in the kitchen then open the fridge. A tub of chocolate ice cream, although almost empty meets my gaze. This night just can't get better.
After watching Zarah's Nikkah I switch off the TV and go upstairs. After praying Isha, I start to read on wattpad. Halfway through the chapter, my phone rings. It's a private number again.
I pick a black plain Abaya and black veil to match and wear. I don't know who this is but even though I know I'll be in the house I pick a scissors and hold, just for protection.
I walk to the back of the house and it's surprisingly dark. I'm not going in that darkness. What if the person is a kidnapper? My hold on the scissors tightens and I turn to leave.
"I was already thinking of going with plan B if you didn't arrive here." a deep voice echoes in the darkness. The same deep voice I heard over the phone. I stiffen and I hold the scissors tighter.
"Relax hermana." Did he just tell me to relax? I should relax so he can kill me? God forbid!
I have alot of questions I want to ask him but I can't bring my lips to move.
"Who are you?" My voice shakes at the beginning and I can feel my body wet with sweat.
"Well, let's just say I'm your stalker. But if you really want to know, you can ask your dad."
"How does he know you?" But my response is silence.
I turn to go back inside the house through the kitchen door when my phone pings with a message. I almost scream because of how scared the ping made me. It's from Ya Sa'eed.
I'm outside your house waiting for you. Come out we need to talk. It's urgent.
I reply with an okay and adjust my veil. I walk outside and almost immediately recognize Ammi's car. It's a grey Mercedes with tinted glasses. I knock on the driver's window and then he rolls it down.
"Zagayo ki shiga {turn and come inside}. We need to talk." He rolls the window back up.
It seems awkward. And I've never been alone in a car with a guy before except for my daddy. But he won't do anything right? He is Ya Sa'eed after all, Teemah's older brother which makes him my brother.
I shrug all my negative thoughts off and take deep breaths before rounding the car. I'm just being paranoid because of what happened few minutes ago.
"Be fast dan Allah. Mummy will soon start looking for me." I look up through his window to see if Mummy is looking through her window.
He turns to bring something from the back seat which turns out to be a big black nylon with sahad stores boldly inscribed on it with white.
He hands it over to me and I collect it. I hold the door knob but his voice stops me.
"I'm not done yet. Don't you want to see what's inside?" I do want to see what's inside but it'll waste time and mummy has started laying rules for me. If I break any I'll be in a lot of trouble.
I quickly take a peek at it. Two ice-cream packs, one from sahad and one from cold stone. There are a lot of chocolate bars too.
"Thank you Ya Sa'eed." I smile and open the car but his voice stops me again.
"Please don't let it what I'm about to say scare you off. Don't let it ruin our relationship. If you're not comfortable no problem. Okay so, uhm I want to tell you that uhm... I love... I love you. Like love love. As in love na sayoyya and I hope that one day In Shaa Allah we'll be together as husband and wife. If you're not ready I can wait. Afterall, I've waited this long so waiting for longer is not a problem."
