23. Advice And Quarrel

Fatima's POV

"Adda inji Ammi wai ki hada wa Abba {Ammi said you should make for Abba} ginger tea." Afnan says to me as I knot my tie around my neck.

"Okay, tohm. I'm coming. Kuma before I finish you guys should eat the toasted bread with tea. Ask Amal to make the tea for you guys. Banda shan madara {Don't take the milk}." I pin my earrings in their holes. I quickly slipp on my black loafers and black cap than rush down the stairs to make the ginger tea for Abba.

I add honey in Abba's cup and sugar in mine then drop mine on the dining table and stroll to his room.

"Have you talked to Halima's mum?" I hear Abba say.

"Ai nace I'll talk to her. Don't worry kai kam. Kuma ai it won't be nice to call her early in the morning around 7am." Ammi replies.

"Toh shikenan but make sure you talk to her. Let me drop this children zanje cikin gari." Abba says and I know he'll be out any minute so I say my salam.

"Wa alaikis salam shigo {Peace be unto you too, come in}." Ammi said and I open the door then go inside the room. I drop the tea then kneel on the ground.

"Ammi, Abba ina kwana {Good morning}."

"lafiya qalau kun gama shiri koh {Fine, you're done preparing right}?" Ammi says while Abba nods at me as he sips his tea.

"I'm not sure su Amal sun gama shiri amma they should be done by now. Bari inje in duba {Let me go and check}." I stand up to leave.

"kin gyara dakin ki koh {You've dressed your room right}?" I nod and Ammi waves me away.

I go and check on Amal and Afnan and they are all ready and have tidied up their rooms. We sling our bags and wait for Abba to come and take us to school. We drive to school and when he drops us he gives me one thousand naira.

"When you come back home we might have to talk. Sa'eed will come later, he's going to serve his punishment at home before coming." He says and I nod.

Knowing Ammi and Abba they'll collect his driver's license, Ammi's car key and ground him without phone or internet access for a week.

I enter the school and sight Halli. I smile cheekily and walk over to her.

"Halli yakike {How are you}?" I give her a brief hug and we continue walking together.

"Hmm, ganinan fah. Ai mummy do me strong thing yesterday ke?! Hmm wallahi I was and still am very surprised." Halli shakes her head.

"What happened? Meye tayi {What did she do}?"

"Ke let's go to class first in shafa miki labarin. Keh the thing is surprising fah. Hmm. Wallahi even you'll be surprised." Halli says as we walk up the stairs.

Immediately we sit down she starts.

"Hmm, kekam yesterday when I came back home, I couldn't sleep. I finally fell asleep then mummy came inside the room and said I should pray asr and not sleep. Ehen that reminds me Fatima have you been praying like I said?" I scoff at her last sentence and roll my eyes.
