I walked up to Casey’s house with Cole right next to me for support. I could feel the tears starting to form again in my eyes as I raised a hand to the door and knocked softly.
Cole squeezed my hand sensing I was a word away from falling apart. I took a few shaky breathe trying to calm myself.
I heard shuffling around from the other side of the door and the door swung open. A women about 40 with long blonde hair stared at me as if to say who are you?
I gulped back the lump in my throat and gave her a small smile. She looked confused for a second as she waited for me to talk.
“Hi you must be Casey’s mom right?” I asked and her eyes glimmered with recognition. She nodded her head at me and a small smile formed on her lips. You could obviously tell she was her mom.
Same blonde hair, same blue eyes and pale skin. If she was a little younger she would of looked like her sister.
“Yes, who are you?” She asked in a sweet voice, a beg of sadness washed through my body. How could I a person their daughter had just been killed?
“I’m Ashleya,” I said but before I could finish my sentence she started to laugh softening her face.
“Oh, I have heard so much about you, Casey never shuts up about you,” She laughed and I grinned like a fool, tears spilling from my eyes.
She looked at me in shock as I looked away wiping the spilled tears away from my cheeks. “What is this about?” She asked worried and I looked up to see her frowning at me with concern over her face.
“Is Casey alright? Did something happen to Rose?” She asked in a rush and covered her hand over her mouth in worry. Who was Rose?
“Who is Rose?” I asked, Casey had never mentioned about a girl called Rose? Was she her sister?
“Her daughter, she did tell you didn’t she?” Her mother told me and I gasped in shock. I looked up to see Cole looking at her with disbelief.
“S-she had a daughter?” I asked in shock looking back at her mother.
“Oh my, Casey’s going to kill me, I just thought you knew,” She said and I shook my head. How could Casey of had a child? She was only like 17.
“How old is she?” I asked and her eyes glimmered with love.
“Come in, I’ll show you a photo,” She told me and walked into her house, I followed her in, dragging Cole behind shortly.
Me and Cole walked into what I guessed was their living room. I watched as her mom picked up a photo and kissed it softly. She turned around a big smile on her loving face.
She handed me the photo and I looked down at it to see a beautiful baby girl about a couple of months old.
“She’s beautiful,” I muttered a tear falling from my eyes onto the picture. I wiped it away and smiled at her.
“She’s four months old, her name is Rose Paige Hails,” She told me proudly and I really couldn’t take it anymore.
How could she not of told me? And now she was dead, leaving her daughter without a mother. And the worst part was it was all my fault.
I had not only killed her but ruined her beautiful daughters life. She was left without a mother, I knew how that felt and it was horrible.
“Has she got a father?” I asked and she let out a spiteful laugh.
“You mean that sperm doner, no,” She said and the guilt became 100 times worse.
“Mrs Hails,” I started and she shook her head.
“Call me Elise,” She told me and I nodded, the lump in my throat forming again.
“Casey’s,” I couldn’t explain because the air I was breathing seemed to shorten and tears sprang from my eyes.
I could see her mothers worried face through my tears. “Casey’s what?” She asked and I turned around unable to look at her and buried my face into Cole’s warm chest.
Cole held me tightly as I cried out my heart, again. “Casey was mugged,” Cole lied his voice showing guilt and sorrow.
I heard her mother gasp, I looked up to see her taking a few steps back as she covered her hand with her mouth.
She held onto the mantel piece for support and took a deep breath. “Is she alright?” She asked and I couldn’t help but shake my head, more tears flooding through my eyes at the memory of Casey’s still body lying in a heap of blood. Her blood.
“She’s,” Cole took in a hasty breath, a few tears escaping his eyes. “Dead,” He said and she opened her mouth and let out a horrifying scream in pain.
Tears rushed through her eyes as they blazed with anger. “Where’s Rose?” She yelled.
“W-we don’t know,” I told her and she fell to the floor sobbing her heart out for the lost of her daughter.
I was going to go comfort her but Cole stopped me, I looked up at him confused. “She’s angry, she has to calm down,” He said and I looked back over to Elise. Her body shaking as her sobs echoed throughout the house.
“We need to know were Casey would of left Rose?” Cole asked and I saw Elise shake her head, more sobs escaping her collapsed form.
“I-I don’t know,” She admitted “I want you to leave, please,” She sobbed with pain and we nodded backing out of the room.
