"I don't know what I should do...or say. I have to start heading back now, I'm already in enough trouble as it is right now because I'm so late." I looked at Jungkook, then to Hyunjin. I almost wished I didn't have to go back. Now that I knew people out here, away from the orphanage, it seemed like the idea of going back was the farthest it could have been from good.
"You know...you don't have to go back right now if you don't want to. You could always stay a little while longer with us and go back later. Or..." Jungkook seemed hesitant as he trailed off. I could tell he was nervous. The atmosphere grew more tense each second he didn't follow up. Part of me hoped that they would save me from the life I was living, that they would somehow have some amazing solution and I could run into the sunset with some sort of family. But, had it been my choice, I wouldn't have taken it. I'm sure they were aware of this.
"Nevermind him. We can take you back now." Hyunjin hinted at the dark sky and started nudging me onto the path we came from. I was relieved the situation had all worked itself out but, at the same time, I couldn't help but feeling a little disappointment that everything was over. While we walked back through the path, the sky slowly filled with stars and created a beautifully peaceful scenery. Hyunjin held my hand as he pulled me further down the path, he was about a step ahead of me, and Jungkook, maybe two steps behind, would nudge my back every now and then to occasionally protect me from a stray branch. It was dark out so none of us could see very well even though Hyunjin and Jungkook used their phones as flashlights. I felt more secure than ever, definitely more than I ever should have. They obviously could have done anything to me at any point in time that night but I never felt in danger. Something about them just made me feel like they would never do anything to hurt me. They always could have done things, I'm realizing, but they never would.
"Okay, here's the car. Watch your step as you get up, don't forget to buckle. Hyunjin, why don't you sit in the back with her this time." Jungkook helped me into the car and made his way to the driver's seat as Hyunjin sat beside me. He looked really tired, both of them did. I felt bad that I had no way of helping them after everything they'd done for me.
"Hyunjin, are you tired?" I asked when he laid his head on the window. He didn't say anything but groaned in response. I moved to the middle seat of the car and held his head, transferring it to my lap once I had moved back to my original seat so he could lay down.
"Promise, what are you doing? Are you sure this is okay?" He seemed flustered which is understandable as the position we were in wasn't very conventional especially for two people who had just met. But, since there was some sort of history, though that wasn't conventional either, and there was a weird connection between the three of us, I thought it would be okay.
"I think it's okay. Are you uncomfortable or do you not like it? I was just trying to help you sleep..." I felt a little awkward thinking I had made the wrong decision, but I felt reassured when he smiled at me.
"Don't worry, I like it." He nuzzled his face into my stomach and slid his right arm behind my back, hugging my waist. The ride wasn't too far which made me a little suspicious because the orphanage seemed much further away earlier, but I just chalked it up to me not paying too much attention during the ride. As soon as we stopped, Hyunjin and Jungkook acted a little tense and immediately got out of the car. I went to open the door when someone opened it for me from the outside. I thought it was a nice gesture at first so I smiled at the person who I saw was Hyunjin. No more than a second later, my vision was consumed with darkness caused by a bag that was thrown over my head.
"Don't worry, you're safe." I heard Jungkook say quietly while he picked me up and brought me inside their house, though I had no idea what it was at the time. In the split second I was able to see outside of the car after stepping out I was not able to get a glimpse of it. All I saw was a regretful look on the two of their faces. I started to panic as the reality of my situation started setting in. I was kidnapped. I had trusted complete strangers, believing the best in them, and ended up in a situation where I may die. Nobody knew I was there besides them and the orphanage could probably less. The latter was more or less true than I thought as there were people who genuinely cared and would notice and be worried once they figured out I was missing, but the authorities and people in higher positions wouldn't and that's where things would start to fall through.
"Why are you doing this? What are you going to do to me?" I softly asked whoever could hear me through the cracks in my voice from crying. There were so many thoughts in my head but the loudest one just kept repeating to me over and over. "Why did I trust them?" I couldn't fathom the fact that I had listened to their bullshit story about "watching over me". It sounded ridiculous when I locked back over it so why did I believe it before? Was I really that desperate? I must have been to ignore every single red flag since the moment I noticed them. Throughout the walk to the bedroom I would be locked in, I had convinced myself that it was all my fault. In some perspective, it was completely and utterly my fault for having been so naive and oblivious, ignoring everything I was taught from a young age and throwing caution to the wind. In another, it couldn't possibly be my fault no matter what. I wasn't the one who put a bag over my head and carried over my shoulders like a sack of potatoes to some foreign room after convincing myself to stay with sketchy stalkers.
