Chapter Nine
Rydel's POV
When she opened her eyes that morning, the sun was shining through the curtains.
Squinting, she glanced at her alarm clock. It was 8:36.
Somehow, she had slept through the entire night without waking up even once.
That didn't stop the butterflies from taking flight in her stomach. As soon as she sat up and realized what the day was, she felt them begin to flutter.
Today she would become Mrs. Ellington Ratliff.
For the past five years she had dreamed of the day her and Ellington would finally be a couple. Now her dreams were coming true.
Pulling a hoodie over her head, and sliding her sock-less feet into a pair of slippers, she hurried downstairs.
In the Lynch house, silence was a rare occurrence. You would only find the house truly silent at night or when the boys weren't home.
Almost always someone was playing an instrument, or Rocky was producing new songs, or Ryland was DJing. Something was always happening.
So when she heard nothing that morning, she was confused.
She carried herself into the kitchen where a note was sat in front of a bouquet of flowers.
She picked up the flowers, a collection of yellow daisies and brightly coloured tulips. They smelled almost as beautiful as they looked.
She placed them back down and brought her attention to the folded note. It read;
My Dearest Rydel,
Today is they day you have waited for your entire life. Today you will be married. It's hard for a mother not to be emotional when her daughter is so grown up. I have watched you turn from my little rockstar into a role model for so many young girls around the world. You have created such a beautiful life for yourself, and I could not be any prouder of the young woman you have become. It makes my heart smile knowing that you are raising your daughter the same way I raised you once upon a time. Today is your day. Today you are the only thing that matters. Your father and I cannot wait to see you at the church later today. You will be the most beautiful bride. I love you more than you will ever know.
Love Momma
P.S. The flowers are from your brothers. They wanted you to smile when you saw them.
She held the note close to her heart. It was the most beautiful thing knowing that her mother was proud of her.
She picked the flowers up again, unwrapping the plastic that covered the stems. She took a vase from the china cabinet and filled the bottom with water.
She had just placed the flowers in the vase when the phone rang.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Good, you're up!" a familiar voice spoke on the other end.
"Taylor?" she smiled.
"The one and only" her best friend joked.
"Where are you?" she asked, "It sounds like you're in a car"
"I am" Taylor laughed, "Im on my way to your place right now."
"My place? Why?" Rydel questioned.
"Oh sweetie have you forgotten what today is already? Its your wedding. I'm your maid of honour. Im coming by to help you get ready for this afternoon."
"So we're playing dress up" Rydel smiled. "Just like old times"
"Yea, just like old times" Taylor responded, "Except this is the biggest dress up of your life."
She blushed at the thought of Ellington's reaction to her in the dress.
"I'm glad you're doing this with me Tay" she smiled into the phone.
"Me too" her best friend's voice answered. "Now get off the phone and open your door. I brought coffee."
