I slowly open my eyes to a plain white room. There's a bright light and I can barely make out a face. "I think she's waking up," the person said. "Do you remember your name," another person asked. I look around and notice four people in the room. A girl with long brown hair was holding my hand and staring at me with her amber eyes.
I couldn't remember my name. Could I be an orphan? When I studied the worried filled faces I realized that couldn't be. "I don't remember," I say and the girl gasps. "You don't remember me Amira," the girl asks and I shake my head no. "After the accident this is common. I'll leave you kids to take care of her. Thanos behave," a man in a white coat says.
"I always do," a boy says and looks over at me. He had black hair styled in an emo way with dark brown eyes. "So you don't remember any of us," the boy asks amused. "No. What's your name," I ask. "I'm Thanos obviously. The girl holding your hand is Selene, and this quiet guy is Dalton. There I've done my good dead for the day," Thanos says.
"I could have introduced myself Thanos," Selene says and looks at me. "Don't worry about him. He's always grumpy," she says. "Where am I," I ask. "The infirmary. You injured yourself during the level up ceremony," Selene says. "What's that," I ask.
"It's when your powers reach a new level. Mr. Conarvic decides who gets to level up," Selene says. "Who's he," I ask. "Our principal," Dalton says. I look over and Dalton has blonde hair slicked back and dark brown eyes. "So I'm at school," I ask. "No you're in the park," Thanos says.
"Have I done something to you," I ask as Thanos stands up. "Not really. I just don't like others. I'm out of here," he says and walks out of the room. I turn to face Dalton as he stands up. "I'm going to finish homework. I left the rose for you Amira. I hope you feel better," Dalton says and kisses my forehead.
I feel myself blushing as Dalton leaves the room. "Don't get too excited. We treat everyone like family," Selene teases and I nod. "You said we level up. What exactly are we," I ask. Selene smiles and says, "We are Death Abettors. This is a school that takes what humans believe are myths and contains us," Selene says. "What do you mean contain," I ask.
"I'm not a hundred percent sure but I know that we are really rare. Don't worry. I'll tell you more about everything when you have a little more strength," she says. I nod and close my eyes. I see bloody hands and instantly open my eyes. "When can I get out of here," I ask.
"You can leave now Ms. Amira. Selene will you call me if she has any symptoms," the doctor asks. I thanked the doctor but I still wasn't sure what I was thanking him for. "Are you hungry yet," Selene asks. As if on cue, my stomach growls and I nod. "Well we're having pizza today and once you wipe away the grease, it's really good," Selene says with a smile.
I stand up carefully and see my reflection in a mirror. I have a caramel skin tone and a short, brown pixie cut. I'm lean like Selene and I ask, "How old am I?" "Fifteen and only a year older than me silly," Selene says with a grin. I look down and realize I'm wearing a uniform. I look up and Selene is wearing the same purple plaid skirt, white button down shirt, purple vest, and black ankle boots that I was wearing.
"Does everyone have to wear this," I ask. "Yes but in different colors," Selene says. We walk out of the room and I get pushed. "Watch where you're going loser! Just because you leveled up doesn't mean you're better than us," someone said. I look up to see a very curvy, long blonde haired, blue eyed girl with a mean expression.
"We have the same right to walk here Eden," Selene says and Eden laughs. "Sure! Just kill another of your kind. The less of you, the better the world will be," Eden said and walked away. "What was that all about," I ask. "You seriously don't remember," Selene asks and I shake my head no. It's so strange. I feel like a newborn seeing everything for the first time.
