"Freya-chan! Wait!" Aiyoku followed her first.
"What is with her?" Rigaku asked Kagetsu, who ran in front of him.
"That burning building is her flat!"
Cold sweat covered Rigaku's back. "No way..." He gasped.
Aiyoku grabbed Freya's hand. "The car is waiting! It will get you there!"
The girl looked at him with twisted features as tears slid down her cheeks. The inarticulate word left the girl's lips. Denying or accepting didn't matter at this moment, as Aiyoku didn't allow her to go on her own.
The driver waited outside the car, his eyes widening as he saw them all rushing.
"What's wrong!"
"Her flat is burning!" Aiyoku gasped as Freya got into the car. "Please, hurry!"
Before he finished the last words, the driver jumped into his seat, starting the car. Rigaku barely sat inside, when the tires screeched, racing out of the parking lot.
Freya sat there, shivering and holding her head. Sobs and inarticulate syllables escaped her trembling lips. Aiyoku hugged her from the left and Kagetsu from the right. Rigaku sat in front of them with serious eyes.
The driver broke some rules and cut a few corners too close, but the image of weeping Freya as flames ate her home, moved him forward. He didn't care about getting a fine. This was a question of life and death.
"Here's the bus stop!" The driver abused the tires as he stomped the break.
The group jumped from the car, overcoming the rest by foot. Ominous clouds and stench of burned wood and plastic invaded their throats. A crowd of people gathered around the fire workers, watching them extinguish the hungry elemental.
Freya pushed people aside, overcoming the tape.
"Hey, get back!" One fireman stopped her. "It's dangerous!"
Rigaku caught up to her. "She is living here!" He grabbed her, and as the wave of adrenaline dissipated, her legs turned into spaghetti.
"Really? What's your name?"
"She is mute." Aiyoku got through the crowd with the help of his younger brother. "Her name is Freya Inuhakka."
The man left out a deep sigh. "That's good. She was the only one we couldn't locate."
"So, no casualties?"
"Yes. Just a few scratches, bruises, light burns, and a need for fresh air."
Freya sobbed in Rigaku's arms. The fireman guided them to a place with a coffee machine, giving her a latte to calm down and warm up a bit. Later they would ask her some questions.
They watched as the firefighters put down the last flickers of flames an hour or so later. The five-story building turned inhabitable in most of the flats. The fire started on the third floor as the walls had the darkest burns, and that's where Freya's place was.
