Minutes later, the police came, taking the boxer with them after collecting the facts from the witnesses.

Kagetsu noticed the man lurking around and followed him. Upon reaching this hut, he gave his brothers the coordination and revealed himself as the situation seemed to spiral out.

Rigaku nor Aiyoku needed a long time to figure out something was wrong, so they asked Mr. Arima for help. After that, they have heard the gunshot, and they arrived a few seconds later, apprehending the criminal.

Rigaku mentioned a shot cat, which his brother was carrying to the vet, and that his youngest brother once saved it from drowning. The policewoman noted everything down, thanking them for their fast action but pestered them for being so reckless.

Ueno calmed down a bit with the help of the kittens that rested around her. Their eyes asked her where their mom was. However, she had no answer. She dreaded the worst outcome.

Freya didn't leave her side, trying her best to soothe her friend. Yet the thoughts in her mind swirled. She soon forgot about this man and his group. He turned into a distant memory. Another bad day in her life. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Still, his words seeped inside her poison, and she started to doubt Ueno's promise. Could she fake her attempt to change? Could she plot something behind those teary eyes?

As much as she wanted to ask, she couldn't find it inside her.

'Past should help us look into the future, was what my dad often said to me. Past isn't a chain holding us, but a base that supports us.'

Tears slid down her cheeks. What to trust? Who to doubt? Her heart couldn't decide if it wanted to race or settled down, changing speed in a matter of a few seconds.

Rigaku bowed, seeing the police to go. He turned around, walking around the circled place with blood. He tried not to look at it.

Kagetsu sat near the girls, watching the kittens with hungry eyes. His fingers twitched, eager to touch the fluffy fur of theirs. However, he didn't know if he should.

Ueno was their enemy. The bad girl who bullied others. She was mean. Freya held a lot of scars on her body thanks to her. Some that ripped so deep no doctor could heal them. Not even time. There wasn't a good bone in her body.

The memories of her mixed in his mind. Going from her insane self to this moment. A neigh resonated from behind him, and a big dark horse stood in his shadow, watching the scene.

"Crabmeat!" Kagetsu shouted, jumping onto his feet.

Ueno jerked, leaning closer to Freya, who hugged her. Their senpai shut her eyes, expecting Kagetsu's fingers, grabbing her hair, her shoulder, or wrist. She bit her lip, locking her mouth.

Instead, his jacket covered her back.

"You will catch a cold if you keep crying."

His voice came to her like a lullaby.
