 *Dixie's POV*

"Shift's almost over and we have no calls!" Mills exclaimed in excitement. Just as he finished the alarm rang. I shot him a dirty looked, saying, "You jinxed us."

"Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, multi-vehicle crash." Everybody rushed out of the common room and into the rigs. When we arrived on scene, we were informed that a drunk driver crashed into another guy's car. I walked over to the police officers on scene and asked, "Hey, where's that drunk driver?"

"Left to hospital in a police car to check out his injuries."

"Couldn't you wait for the fucking ambulance? Who was the driver?" I asked. They kept quiet. I asked again, "Who was the driver?"

"Justin Voight." They replied. I groaned. Voight. He was probably the dirtiest cop in all of Chicago. I rubbed my face before walking back to Matt who was packing up our equipment.

"Captain. Driver was Justin Voight, believed to be DUI." I reported to Matt. He nodded, but I could see that he was pissed. We climbed into the truck and departed back towards 51. When we returned to the station, Matt stormed straight towards his office. I made two cups of coffee before knocking on his door.

"Hey, Cap." I sighed, handing him a cup of coffee, then proceeding to put mine down on his desk and sat down beside him on his bed. He put his coffee down too, then groaned, "Should I report it?"

"You should, Matt, but it's totally up to you."

"There was a family of three in the car that got hit."

"Uh-huh."

"And I couldn't stop telling myself to report Voight because that's what I would do if that was you in that car with your husband and your son." "Matty..." I sighed, leaning on his shoulder. He buried his face in his hands. We sat there in silence for five minutes before the door to his office burst open. There stood Mills, panting, "Captain, Hallie's here."

"Okay." Matt replied before standing up and walking outside, with him piggy-backing me because I was so lazy. We saw Hallie standing beside Truck, looking despaired. She looked at us, then informed us with a piece of devastating news, "The boy who was in the accident. He's paralyzed waist down."

"Oh my--" I clamped my hand over my mouth. Hallie gave a small smile before muttering something about her boyfriend waiting for her and left. Soon after her arrived the man I recognized who was in the accident, carrying a box containing a chocolate cake in his hands. He saw us and gave a small chuckle. He passed Herrmann the cake, then turned to face us, then said, "Thank you for your hard work. It saved my son's life."

"We heard the news. I'm so sorry, sir." I told him. He had a twinkle in his eyes, but he looked crestfallen.

"But there was something wrong in the report. It said that I ran a red light, but I'm positive I didn't. Anyway, I'll be going now." He gave a fake smile, but all of us saw through it. I hopped off Matt's back, and looked into his eyes which were ridden with guilt. He grabbed me by my shoulders and led me to Boden's office.

"Chief? I'm reporting Voight. The report claimed that the man ran a red light but I know Voight's a dirty cop." Matt told Chief Boden.

"I saw it too. Justin's car reeked of alcohol." I backed Matt up. Chief Boden gave a chuckle, saying, "Leaders lead from the front. Go, Casey, and take Cohen with you."

We left the firehouse in a hurry in Matt's car, driving to the 21st to report the incident. Matt was finishing up the paperwork when I saw Justin, standing next to a girl with curly blondish-brown hair.

(flashback)

"No, Justin, don't you dare!" I giggled as Justin picked me up from my spot on the beach chair and lightly tossed me into the pool, then cannon-balling into the pool. We rose to the surface, laughing.

"Justin!" I giggle-shrieked.

"I was lonely." The 16-year-old gave a small pout. I fake-scoffed, pretending to waddle away, only earning a hearty chuckle from Justin who watched the scene unfold before him. The girl he looked at with love in his eyes.

"Dix?" Matt asked, standing in front of me, snapping me back to the situation we were in. I nodded, then walked out. We were about to get into Matt's car when Voight came out and stopped us. Apparently, he had caught wind of Matt reporting the Voights.

"Ah, Matt Casey. Let's get a drink tonight!"

"Sure." Matt agreed, leaving me dumbfounded.

"Okay. Here's the address." Voight said, handing Matt a piece of paper before walking off.

After shift, Matt and I hung out, before going to meet Voight. I pulled on a white t-shirt, jeans and black combat boots while Matt wore a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. We left his apartment and drove to the bar where we were supposed to meet Voight and Justin.

We walked into the bar and sat down at a table with the two Voights. Matt ordered us two beers. I could see Justin studying me as I sat down opposite him. He gave a small smile which I did not return. Looking disappointed, he took a swig of beer from his bottle.

"Look, Casey, Justin's a good person. He's just gotten himself into one-too-many messes. If he gets charged for DUI, he'll end up in jail for years. Why ruin his life?"

"That boy in the car he hit, he's paralyzed from waist down." Matt growled in a dangerously-low tone. Even I knew not to cross him when he used it. It was just playing with fire. And apparently, Hank Voight thought that he could play with fire, because he retorted, "And nobody needs to know that."

Matt pushed out his seat, the metal legs scraping the floor. He stood up and left and I followed, but I could hear footsteps behind me. Justin grabbed my wrist as we stepped out of the bar. Matt walked straight to his car. I shook Justin off me, asking, annoyed, "What?"

"I haven't seen you in ages."

"I could say the same to you." I huffed, crossing my arms.

"How are you?"

"Look, Justin. What we had was messy. It's fine. You don't have to weasel back into my life and appear like you care. Besides, you got yourself a girlfriend now. Bye, Justin." I huffed again, walking back to Matt's car. I got in and buckled my seatbelt, then closing the door.

"You know Justin?" Matt asked as he started the engine.

"He's my ex." I sighed.
