*Dixie's POV*
After our shift, we went back to Matt's apartment and slept a bit more before going out for lunch. When the time to leave rolled by, I was dressed in a black spaghetti-strap pullover dress and a white t-shirt with Adidas Superstars. Matt was wearing a t-shirt and jeans.
"Hey, babe, let's go." Matt said, standing by the doorway, the door to the apartment open. I nodded, picking up my purse and tying my hair into a ponytail. We stepped out and Matt locked the door, before taking my hand in his and walking to the elevator.
"Where are we going to eat?" I asked as we got into his truck.
"Chipotle?"
"Yes, please." I giggled as I buckled my seatbelt.
"You're such a child."
"I'm a child carrying a child?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yup." Matt replied as he started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. He gave me a small smile as he rested his hand on my thigh. God, I love this man.

"We're here." Matt said, pulling into a parking lot. We had reached the mall. I unbuckled my seatbelt, then got out of the car, walking into the mall with Matt. We were walking past a baby shop and I saw Hallie and a man whom I assumed to be her boyfriend. I tried to rush Matt away but he saw it. He looked a bit disappointed but then a smile worked his way onto his face again.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked, grabbing his hand.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Should we get some baby blankies? We don't have to buy it now, just take a look."
"Okay." Matt said and I walked into the store, Matt following behind me. We looked at a rack of baby blankets and cute bibs. Through the corner of my eye, I saw Hallie put her hand on her stomach. She was pregnant, I guessed. Then, I saw a gleaming ring on her finger. I was curious as to why she started a family with someone else.
I shook my head and pulled Matt out of the shop. We were almost out when I heard, "Hey, Matt!" and I groaned. It was Hallie's voice. We turned around and face the brunette and her boyfriend. Her boyfriend had a huge scowl on his face as he glowered at Matt. Typical jealous-ass boyfriend.
"Hey, Hallie." Matt replied and I shot her a small smile. She had a small bump. Although I was just over a week pregnant, I was proud of my little baby.
"Yeah, um, we need to go." Hallie's boyfriend said, dragging her off. I sighed as I turned to look at Matt. He, surprisingly, remained unfazed.
"Babe, let's go." I said, leading us out of the shop, to Chipotle. During the meal, Matt seemed like he was in his own world. I sighed and continued eating. After lunch, nothing changed. He was still spaced out and I was still trying to keep my shit together.
We had only been dating for a little over a week, but I was so attached that it hurt. I couldn't blame Matt, I knew that he had a hard time getting over Hallie, but he had to. He couldn't have both of us, and I was pretty sure he knew that, he was just trying his luck.
Once we reached back to Matt's apartment, I was extremely quiet, because I didn't want to say something I would regret.
"Are you okay?" Matt asked as I put my purse down on the sofa. I nodded and went to take a shower. I came out wearing an old hoodie, which Kelly had given to me when we first joined the fire academy, and black leggings.
"Hey, really, why are you so quiet?"
"I'm fine, Matt, really." I replied, sighing as I turned on the television. He nodded and went to take a shower. I was watching a movie when there was banging at the front door. I stood up, walking towards the door. I opened the door without looking through the peephole and found a man standing there. I asked, "How may I help you?"
"Is Matthew Casey here?"
"Yeah. Come in." I said, letting him in and giving him a bottle of water. Matt soon came out of the bathroom wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants, then looked from me to the mysterious man.
"Matthew Casey?"
"Yes." Matt replied, sitting down opposite the man at the table. I decided that it was not my business and went into Matt's bedroom, lying down and scrolling through my phone.
After about half an hour, Matt came and joined me on the bed. I leaned on his shoulder, asking, "What happened?"
"Was the insurance guy. Asking me to finish up some forms."
"About?"
"Child. I applied for a change."
"Aw." I replied, smiling, planting small kisses along his neck and shoulders.
"It was quite fast because we haven't decided on much yet and it's still quite early."
"Ah." I answered, still smiling. I was so happy, and honestly, I wanted to feel like that forever. Except maybe with more children.
I. Honestly. Don't. Know.
