Kirsten's POV
I was left dumbfounded when Novak left me in the parking lot.
I heard footsteps approaching so I scanned the parking lot to find a man dressed in a nightguard uniform approaching me. He might possibly be armed, with that thought, I hopped into my car and drove like a maniac out of the school property. I know running makes you seem guilty, but I didn't care.
I pulled into the driveway and noticed all the lights were out, apparently, no one was home. Where were they?
I thought they may have left a message on my phone so I rushed up to my room and plugged it in to charge, willing it to turn on so I could let everyone know I was safe and home.
After a few minutes waiting, the screen lit up, and there were 72 messages, 36 missed calls from Mom, Dad, Fred, Natalie, Stacy and numerous other people from school, all of them worried about my whereabouts. Apparently, my parents had contacted them to locate me.
People have been trying to locate for about five hours now. I am so grounded after this.
I tried calling mom and it went straight to voice mail, so I tried dad and after a few rings, he answered
"Hello, Kirsten! Hello Kirsten, is this Kirsten? Where are you? Tell me and I will come to get you." He spoke with a sense of great relief and hurry."Hey Dad, yes, it's me, Kirsten, I am home, where are you guys?" I responded trying to console him.
"Oh Jesus, My child better be safe, we are on our way home," said Mom, who now had taken over dads phone.
And then the line went dead.
Five minutes later, the car pulled up into the driveway and the next thing I knew, I was smothered by a hug from Mum.
She reluctantly pulled away after I groaned about suffocating and asked me with tearful eyes "Where were you, Kirsten? We were so worried, we are just returning from the police station, they refused to file a missing person report for a teenager, don't ever do this again, we don't want to lose you sooner than we have to"
At this point, her tears are freely flowing as she looks at me with enquiring eyes. Dad and Michael are just standing behind her silently witnessing their innermost fears being displayed by someone else.
"I am so sorry, mom. I went to the library with this new friend I made and I lost track of time, when I remembered at 6, I tried to call you but my phone died, so I hurried here the first chance I got, I am so so sorry, mom. It won't happen again, I promise" I lied through my teeth.
"Oh, we were so worried, we thought you got into a car accident or something, your father even checked the emergency wards of the hospitals.
Natalie and Fred said, you had left the school at 2 and when you weren't home by 4, we got so worried sweetie." she remarked, totally buying my lie.Soon everyone was at ease and relaxed and we sat down to enjoy dinner, the conversation directed towards 'my new friend', I gave them vague details about him and it didn't seem like they were fond of him.
**
My thumbs traced the edges of my phone as I tried to think who would have Novak's contact no, I was dying to find out what irked him, what had I said wrong? And there was not one person who I could think of.
Nobody had this guys number, nobody knew where he lived, he had no friends, was he a figment of my imagination? I wondered.
I tried to push away such absurd thoughts and concentrate on the task at hand - a physics assignment, one of my absolute favourite subjects.
