Severus has been abused from when he could remember. He would cook, clean and if any of the slightest mistakes were made in his chores he would get beaten, hit, starved, so on.
That is only his father. His mother died when he was a young age. It was caused by Severus's abuse. She tried to stop it, yet got killed when protecting her child.
That was until one day. One day in the summer leading back to Hogwarts for Severus's 6th year.
His father, like always, got drunk and smashed Severus on the head with a large empty bottle of alcohol, he had in hand, for some mistake in the food Severus made.
He tripped backwards to hit the rustic wooden flooring in the house. A part of his brain got damaged to also affect his vocal cords.
He couldn't talk.
He met up with Lily explaining what happened by writing it down for her to read. And with what great friend she was she helped him. Taught him and herself sigh language, by that means.
Severus somehow survived till Hogwarts yet then there was another problem. James Potter. The constant bullying. Nevermind before but now. As he was mute. He would be hated even more.
