"What possessed you to even protect me, Vera? What is so wrong with the order learning the truth of what happened? You've created a bigger problem if we can't get Melissa on our side or have a long talk with that Adepti."

The two still stood in her office, now whispering furiously at one another. This was not something that Xander had wanted but this was what had happened, he had to find out why she had wanted this in the first place.

"Edward, some seem to think that the man is a saint, that he's someone who can lead the order into the new golden era of what we once were. I don't, he is obsessed with power, controlling, wielding it. If he gets ahold of you, let's just say that his goals would be...well met."

Raising his brow, he scoffed, why does this entire situation come back to him!? He didn't want this power, he didn't choose it! It had been cursed with him.

"You protected me and now we have to play this game, Vera, we're back where we started, with the lies and games, when does it stop? I have to ask because I'm worried about you, I can imagine you didn't want this...you didn't expect it."

Vera smiled sadly, oh no, she had expected this. It was already noticeable from the beginning, the order was different, yes. Only it didn't make it any other different from societies around the world, it played politics, there were many ways to rise in the order and some involved removing your friends from the positions they earned.

It was lying, it was terrible and it would surely backfire. Yet this was the order, it was society and she had no idea what else to do but to protect the person she had come to respect, admire, and possibly see something in.

"Then you have to talk to her, Melissa, she's the only one that has waited and wished to speak with you. She's waited for that moment, as if she knew this would come. She's going to negotiate, she's going to wish for many things Xander, you have to cut it off there. She cannot be allowed to escape from what is rightfully coming to her."

A snicker escaped the seer, his eyes wide and unbelieving as he looked at the temple magus, the woman that he found himself caring for in many ways. Yet this, the way she seemed to demand him in that tone of hers, it was as if she was not even looking at him but through him. To an objective, like it was all that mattered.

Shaking his head, if she meant to give Melissa what was rightfully coming to her then why did she wish for her to be given a trial? There was a way to avoid this, to give Vera the look of a protector of the order, the one to unite belgrave's chapter of the order and the wolves against a threat like Melissa Ramirez. Yet, that was not to be, no, she had wished to play a game that would have meant his very being would be desired and threatened.

"Do not worry Temple Magus, I am sure the young witch will not pull one over on me. After all, I am the one who taught her that history is defined by our actions, that we make it with every decision and move we make.  I am not one of your underlings, speak to me as I am, an equal."

She finally gave him a look, one that was different and held a lot more stocism then before. It was like she was putting on a brave face, he found himself scoffing before deciding to step closer to her, sitting down on the edge of her desk.

"You are an equal to many, Xander. A lot of people see that, do not think I do not. Your very being is desired because of what you are and what you hold within your blood. Yet, I protected you because I wished to make sure that Edward Coventry does not have another tool at his disposal, someone to dispose of, down the line."

Tilting his head, he nodded and understood. It was her protection, yet there was something that bothered him about that. He expected a little bit more from her, something that would allow him to see what she was thinking, yet he got nothing from her, it was as if she was blocking him out.

His eyes narrowed as he breathed out of his nose, walking to the door. He stopped, his hands on the handles as he looked down at his hands. Noticing the faint golden glow, as if something was connected to him, turning around he looked at vera with a sad smile.

"Thank you, Temple Magus, the wolves thank you for your....loyalty in our time of need. I will speak with Melissa soon enough, see if a bargain cannot be struck."

And with that, the seer walked out leaving him with questions regarding many things. One of them being the fact that he could not seem to get through or connect with Vera Stone, she seemed to be a woman who was closed off in many ways, yet....he wanted that connection, that feeling again

Gasping, his mind went back to what he had heard during that moment in the order chambers, where destruction and death reeked in the air, where fates had been tied together. So many things had remained unanswered yet one thing was clear to him as the moment came to him in his mind like a swift breeze.

A girl's cries...Vera's pleading and yet, she was powerless to stop it and suddenly Xander felt that pain, he felt Vera's pain and wished to comfort her. All he could do was listen and see how she dealt with it. She was strong, she was a warrior in ways she didn't even know yet.

Who was the girl and why did Vera plead? His questions went unanswered as he continued to walk away....
