Who We Are Now

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the second week of History!"

The history buff and professor Xander walked in and noticing the many of the students from last week. He was sure that he would get at least one dropout, only that was not the case and maybe he was wrong about his type of teaching style.

"Now, about the assignment, some of you came to me about the type of people you are now. I had great conversations with each of you but I am here to tell you, this is what I wanted. Some of you know who you are now, the rest are slowly picking it up and finding their traits along the way. This is history, we live it, we read it, and we learn it."

He smiled calmly before looking over each of them and noticing how they now calmed down, seemingly believing his words. He meant them, he knew some would easily float with this task and others would need the guidance of another.

"Now, I want you to leave your assignments with me and I will read them over, I will give you feedback and I will let you know how history sees you."

His easygoing smile remained before there was a knock at the door, he looked up seeing someone he had never recognized before. Raising his hand, the professor waved to the dirty-blonde haired who wore a suit vest.

"May I help you?"

The young man nodded before stepping into the class, noticing the eyes on him but he kept them on the professor.

"My name is Hamish Duke, I'm meant to be your TA, you are Professor Xander Grey, correct?"

The professor with that easygoing smile, motioning for Hamish to sit anywhere as he went back to the class.

"Now we were still how we are history, some of us believe that it is meant for the big moments. Little do we know, history is small, medium, big, large, whatever and whoever you are history will remember you."

Leaning forward and clasping his hands together, Xander could see he finally had their attention with what he was going to say.

"My history is that I am now a History Professor who is trying to impart his weird logic and knowledge onto his students in a way that no one has ever done before. Trust me when I say that I teach like no other but do not think there will not be lessons learned and real teaching, this is just the beginning, I wish to ease you into this and make sure you understand what you are doing here."

He smiled once again, this time passing out a few books to each of the students and he noticed the TA Hamish wished to assist but he waved him off, continuing handing out the books.

"The history of Belgrave University?"

Smiling and turning to Melissa Ramirez with a  wink, he turned back to face the class and noticed the odd looks he was being given.

"Sir, we were already given the tour, we kind of know what to expect already."

Another student piped up, he knew that this was expected but he soldiered on and took on the question.

"You know the history of Belgrave University but what about the mystery and rumours of societies lurking around. I wish for you to investigate and add to those notebooks. Document what you find about certain secrets in this school, see what you learn from the library internet searches, that will be your first true assignment in which I will grade."

He gave them each a smile and noticed the TA Hamish looked at him with a raised brow. Waving him off with a grin, the bells rang out and the class filed out, including Veronica Crane who waved goodbye to her favourite professor.

"Hamish Duke, I'm sure it'll be fun having you in this class, is there anything else you wish to discuss or do I need to read over these documented history papers

"Hamish Duke, I'm sure it'll be fun having you in this class, is there anything else you wish to discuss or do I need to read over these documented history papers.

Hamish shook his head pulling up a chair as he decided to broach the subject in this manner with the newest professor at Belgrave, he was different and probably a little bit weird but he seemed okay in some ways.

"I just wanted to ask why you teach like this, not following the planning and how you could easily get them in that direction of history."

That was a first, considering this was his first teaching in a university and his time of learning had brought him here. It was a weird and thoughtful journey that he loved like no other.

"Simply because there are other ways to learn history, about who we are and could be. Who we will be and maybe, who we are in the end. That's what I want to leave them with but make no mistake, they will be traditionally learning soon enough."

With an uneasy grin that soon bubbled into laughter, Hamish stood up from his seat and left the history professor to reading the papers.

It did not seem like now was the time for that as soon as Hamish left, a knock was heard on his door and looking up, Xander found himself looking at the university's chancellor.

"Miss Stone, a pleasure, may I ask why you are here at my class? I'm sure you don't need some help with history after all."

A plastered brief smile twitched at her lips, Xander seemingly never noticed and gave her a small smile in return.

"I've heard students whisper about the newest history professor, having new eccentric ways to teach. I've come to see the man himself, I'd suggest you stick to the course curriculum Professor Grey."

Tilting his head, he could see she was warning him off something but what? He had no idea what it was.

"I'm afraid I cannot do that, I've already given this week's assignments and I will be grading them, will that be all? I have to get to these other papers. I have a certain way of teaching because I believe there is more than one way for people to learn about themselves, history, and life itself."

He gave her a smile then, going back to reading the papers, he never noticed the narrowed eyes that Vera Stone placed on him but she left it at that.

Seeing herself out, little did either of them know, history had been written and it would be bloody before long...
