Lost the battle, lost the war
But never will I lose the core
Of all my hopes and all my dreams
For they’re the stitches in my seams

-Lilliana-

No no no no no! I bolt upright. Another panic attack, at least that’s what Allie says they are. It only lasts a few minutes, but it feels like forever. They’ve been getting more frequent since Evelyn stayed back.

I miss her so much. We haven’t had contact in a few days. Since the incident, no one has been able to pass through the mirror. Aloysius has been reading every book and scroll, trying to reopen it, but to no avail. It’s locked.

It’s quite a somber morning, like the one after Gabe’s death. She’s not dead though! Everyone acts like she is, but isn’t! I know she isn’t.

Today is her birthday. We were planning to celebrate, I even made her a card, but I guess that’s what’s making this morning a bit quite. This is the first birthday that I we won’t be by each others’ side.

After a quick bowl of oatmeal, I head out to training. Allie is exhausted from working all night so it’s just me today. At least I have Sophie to keep me company.

-Evelyn-

My reflection looks paler today;eyes are sunken in. It’s been so long since I’ve seen sunlight or eaten. I’ve been trapped in a cell for days. Occasionally, Cerin will come down and talk to me about some ceremony they’ve been planning.

I don’t pay attention much. At this point, there’s nothing I can do. I made my choice.

I chose to stay behind.
I chose to lock the mirror.
I chose to lose myself.

I hear a heavy metal door swing shut. It’s him.

His foot steps move slowly to tempo.

“Good morning, Evelyn dear. How did you sleep?”

“Fine.”

“Really?” He smirks, “The guards said they heard screaming again. Was it another nightmare?”

“No,” I glare at him, “It must’ve been the sound of your balls getting chopped off.”

His smirk fades into a frown.

“I guess that since you still seem so lively, you can go another day without food.”

He walks away. My stomach may regret it, but da-n was it satisfying to see him walk away from the battle. I may have lost myself, but my dignity will never be broken.

…………

I think that hours have passed already. I don’t know. I have no sense of time in this cell. I’ve been playing tic tac toe in the dirt. Needless to say, I’m the reigning champ. I’m about to celebrate my 379th victory when my stomach cramps from hunger. I wish I had stored a granola bar in my jacket earlier.

I go to drink some water from the sink. Hopefully it’ll trick my body into feeling full. After a few gulps the door opens again. I know that I have little sense of time now, but a day couldn’t have possibly passed.

The steps sound different. They’re lighter and slightly faster. I peer through the bars to see a council member walking towards me. I hate them. I don’t care what they do, I’ll never submit to them. I’ll never drop down to their level.
