(I don't know if this chapter makes much sense at the end so if it doesn't please tell me so I can make it a bit clearer. Hope y'all enjoy it!)
Go to sleep and close your eyes
Remember the messages in disguiseDon’t forget what you’ve been told
Or you’ll fall back to times of oldLeaders fallen after war
Conspiracies by the ones wanting moreNothing brings them to their knees
So you’ll have to battle until-Evelyn-
Black. Everything around me is filled with complete darkness and I’m left floating in the middle of nowhere. I turn to see a woman in a tree cloak and white dress reaching out, trying to get to me.
“Evelyn, you have to listen to me. You have to contact Lilliana. The shadows are rising. There isn’t much time left.”
The figure starts to fade before my eyes.
“Wait, what do you mean? Don’t go away!”
I try to swim through the sea of nothingness, but it’s too late. She’s disintegrated into the darkness.
My body shocks me awake. I’ve had the same dream for 3 days. She’s not the same one from the mirrors in the corridor, but I feel like I know her.
I swing my feet off the mattress and tentatively try to stand. My whole body has been growing weaker for the past week. I stumble my way to the bathroom and wash my face. The dark circles under my eyes are more prominent, making me look as exhausted as I feel. I’m hoping a hot bath will soothe some of the ache embedded into my bones.
I lather the herbal shampoo into my scalp. The smell is intoxicating, compelling my mind into useless daydreams. I rinse, wrap a towel around my torso and get dressed.
I check the clock. Meredith should be here by now. Mumbling sneaks through the cracks to the door.
I lean against it to hear Meredith speaking with Francisco. Their words aren’t clear, but it’s obvious that they’re flirting. Aww!
The handle starts to turn and I back away from the door. A very flustered Meredith enters the room.
“Looks like someone has a crush on Francisco,” I say wiggling my brows.
The light blush on her cheeks turns scarlet.
“Is it that obvious?”
I nod.
“Go for it Meredith! Ask him out!”
She shushes me, looking back at the door.
“I don’t even know if he likes me that way.”
“That’s why you ask!”
She looks back at the door, nervously biting her lip.
“Maybe. I’ll do it when I’m ready.”
“Ok, I won’t push you.”
I sit down on my bed and start drying my hair. The water dripping down my back was a bit uncomfortable.
“Oh my goodness, we need to hurry!” she expresses after looking at the time.
“What’s happening today?”
“Councilor Nukpana called a meeting regarding the state of the mirror. We have to be there at 10 sharp.”
She grabs a brush and starts going at it with my hair.
