(Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy! Also, just as a note, Lilliana's perspective and Evelyn's second perspective happen at the same time✌ Have a great day❤)
Twist and bind
Knot and tie
Two souls together
Merge them foreverDon't let it snap
Don't let it crack
For if one dies
The other one lies-Evelyn-
No one visited yesterday. Though I'm glad I didn't have to see Cerin, I wish I had someone to talk to for even a moment. It just reminds me of how much I miss everyone.
I read more of her journal, but eventually I felt like I was going to go crazy from the silence. I couldn't stand it much longer.
Moments later, the door swung open. Not gonna lie, that scared the s-t out of me.
The steps are too fast and light to be Cerin's. I peek through the bars and I pleasantly surprised by a friendly face.
"Meredith!"
"Hello Evelyn," she replies as she opens the door.
She's carrying a flimsy bag and a box along with her sewing kit from a few days prior.
"I know that it's not for the best scenario, but I have your dress."
She unzips the bag to reveal a gorgeous evergreen dress. I let out a slight gasp. It's everything I've ever wanted in a dress. Not too sophisticated or complex, but beautiful regardless.
"I'm assuming from the drool that you like it."
I snap out of it and close my mouth.
"No, I love it!" I jump up and embrace her tightly.
"Hey mama bear," she says in a strained voice, "I kinda need to breathe."
"Oops, sorry." I release her.
She then opens the box.
"There are also matching slippers. I assumed you'd want something comfortable."
"Thank you," I say as tears well up in my eyes. This is the happiest I've been in a while.
"Aww sweetie," she wipes a tear away, "This was the least I could do. You helped me so much after the attacks."
"You remembered that?"
"Of course. Though honestly I thought some parts were a fever dream, I remember you and Marleen vividly. You were one of the few people who actually cared about the injured."
Her fists are balled up, nails digging into her palms. I hold them and she relaxes.
"I promise to do everything I can to help. It's not right that the people at the edge have to suffer on their own." She looks down and her arms drop to her side.
"Evelyn, don't make promises you can't keep."
"Meredith-"
"Are you ready yet Evelyn?"
I was too distracted to notice Cerin approach the cell.
"Ready for what?"
"Don't tell me you weren't aware of what today was?"
"The ceremony is today, Evelyn," Meredith responds.
No, it can't be today. I've barely spent a week here. The butterflies rustle in my belly. I'm not ready.
Cerin turns to walk away, but stops for a brief moment.
"Oh, and happy birthday," he smirks and walks off.
