"Take her away, please. She won't be safe here," she cries handing me one of her newborn twins.

"No, Christine. I can't leave you here alone with this pup's twin. He's dangerous to you even more than he was before you delivered the twins," I say trying to drill some sense into her mind. Her tear-filled helpless eyes look at me with so much hope and I lose my will to go against her. Two years, she has been trapped by her mate for two years. This she-wolf has suffered the worst, that too at the hands of a person who was supposed to cherish her but all she got in return was pain and betrayal.

"Dominic, you promised me that you would help me. I know you could have saved your life last year, almost immediately after these rogues captured you but you stayed here with me, for me, for my unborn pups. Now that they are here in this world, I want you to take my baby girl and escape. Please. I know the fate of she-wolves in this jail," she sobs pushing me away from her cell door.

"Even if we aren't related by blood, I think of you as my sister, Christine. How can I leave you and this baby's twin alone when I know what your mate will do to you now that you have delivered a healthy pup?"

"He doesn't know that I was carrying twins. He never came back after discovering my pregnancy. I can show him this pup and plead him to let me keep him. He can carry out his rule-the-world plan, I don't care anymore. I just want my babies to live and that baby-girl won't survive here. Please," she whispers and I can feel the agony in her voice. It's like being in between a rock and a hard place.

Looking at the new-born baby girl in my arms, I lift the cloth covering her head and eyes. The impact of the baby's brown eyes and a tuft of red hair staggers me. Her gaze is slightly unfocused but that is normal for a new-born. I hope she's well, that her twin brother is well. It's a miracle that they were born without any medical problems.

That bloody mate of hers didn't even send a proper mid-wife for her delivery. I had to cut her umbilical cord. How disgusting of her mate! I am just waiting for the day he's delivered justice. I'll watch the show with fresh blood and popcorn.

Were it in my hands, I would have finished him off in a few minutes! Sadly, I am not a werewolf and according to nature's laws, a vampire cannot murder a werewolf. No matter if the werewolf is a criminal, I am not allowed to kill him or it will mean an inter-species war.

And in that, I am not interested.

"Dominic, please," she looking at me weird which makes me realise that I have been standing here for a few minutes, lost in my own thoughts. Quickly, shaking my head a little, I walk towards her and wrap an arm around her shoulders.

"I can't take her away. What if I give her to a human couple and then after a few years, your daughter shifts into a big wolf? What happens then?" I whisper very quietly and soothingly.

"No, it won't happen. The werewolf gene is dormant in her. Look at her eyes and then look at the baby boy's eyes," she makes me look at both the babies' eyes. The boy's eyes are blue like his father but the girl's eyes are dull brown. What does this mean? I look at their mother with my question clear in my eyes.

"I am a dormant wolf, Dominic. That's the main reason why I was tossed aside. His healer said that any of our child who has my eyes will have the dormant wolf gene whereas any child of ours with blue eyes like their father, will have an active wolf gene," she explains.

"You are saying that he rejected you because you are dormant? What the fuck!" I can't help but raise my voice.

"Shhh! Yes. But don't you see, she's dormant. She can't shift and so she'll be fine in the human world. She'll also look like a normal human does. Same like me, okay?" I look at her for a long time before making my decision.

"I'll do this for you, sestra but I'll come back for you, to rescue your son and you." Her relief is palpable but as soon as she hears my plans of returning, her face crumbles into a big frown.

"No, no. You shouldn't come back here. Please look after her. Make sure that she's safe and no one knows of her existence," she whispers and then pushes herself out of my reach, cuddling her son to her chest.

"Fine but I'll come back. After a few days or after a few years. Make sure you live. Do you understand me?" I stare into her hopeless eyes, maintaining my fierce look. After a few seconds, she nods and then turns towards the baby in my arms.

Caressing her daughter's cheek and then taking one last sniff of her baby, Christine whispers with a small smile, "look after my baby."

"I give you my word," I promise.
