Tonya

Thursday, March 16

Kevin had trouble concentrating, thinking about Tonya. The one school conversation he remembered was with Graciela, who had sat next to Helen Larson. "Mr. Watson, she talked to me in Spanish!"

Hmmm. Another surprise for Miguel.

The rest of the day, he taught, coached, and played an early tennis match with Stan. He told his friend why he was distracted, knowing Stan would keep what Kevin told him in confidence.

Stan said, "This is the third attractive female in a row with limits. Seems like there is value to all this in helping you heal."

"Oh yeah. Agreed. It feels like each time, the pressure has been reduced just when I needed it. Tonya is so attractive, but I admit part of the allure is that I know she'll be leaving."

"I think that is true for her as well. Sounds like a win-win."

They both smiled and finished the match. Stan destroyed his friend, taking advantage of Kevin's focus being elsewhere.

"Okay, Stan, I deserved that thumping. Of course, I would do the same against you. Thanks for the exercise, the lesson, and the reminder that this will be good for both Tonya and me!"

Stan laughed.

Kevin went home, shaved, showered, shaved again, and put on his usual for this heat, a clean blue polo shirt, and navy shorts. Both were tight, as was the style. He drove over to Tonya's and saw he was five minutes early. He waited in his car, nervously watching the clock move slowly. If grass could grow inside an auto....

Precisely at seven, he knocked on her door. She opened it, and he held out both red and white wine.

"Are you trying to get me drunk, so you can take advantage of me?"

Kevin looked mortified. "No, it's just that I'm so happy to be here, after thinking you rejected me, that I want everything to go well."

Tonya pulled him inside. "You're doing just fine. I'm glad you're here." She stood on tiptoe and kissed him lightly on the lips. It felt electric.

"Wow." He pretended to go weak at the knees and hold his heart.

She laughed delightfully. Tonya turned around and led him into the dining area, indicating where Kevin should sit. A corkscrew lay atop the table.

Tonya looked at Kevin and asked, "Do you need to get up early for work tomorrow?"

"No. I'm fully prepared, and tomorrow is easy, with a music assembly before Spring Break."

"Well, maybe the white first, and then the red later with dinner?"

Kevin nodded, opening them both. He watched Tonya finish preparing the food. She wore a short mini dress, with thin spaghetti straps, just low enough in the front to get his heart racing even more, and matching sandals at the base of her shapely legs. The yellow color set off the beauty of her smooth milk-chocolate skin.

I wonder if her body is the same color all over. I wonder if I will get a chance to see if it is. I also wonder if...

"What are you smiling about?" Tonya asked.

"Just pleased to be here," Kevin said.

She brought a tray with cheese slices, crackers, cherry tomatoes, and olives. They clinked glasses, then Tonya said, "To new friends."
