Logan's POV
"Professor, are you telling me that girl is a CLASS 5?" I exclaimed, leaning against the wall. He looked to his daughter who had just finished pulling her hair up. "And she's only a class 3?"
"Logan, you've known me since I was a teenager. I read minds, I have the exact same powers he does." She pointed at Charles, then looked back to me. "I haven't met a mutant like her in YEARS."
"She's very attractive. I'll give her that. And her power, she reminds me of Jean. It's incredible."
"Well, she's probably outside working on it. Why don't you go and see her?" Nodding, I crossed my arms and made my way out of the mansion to the courtyard.
Evangeline was walking around the courtyard, a smirk on her lips. There was an odd black mist coming off of her, and a rather odd song coming from her mouth. "Ah, hello Logan. Great to see you."
"Um... You're smoking." She smiled darkly, inhaling deeply and returning to her normal self. "Okay... That's not weird at all."
"Oh Logan, you really don't know that much about me. I wouldn't call it weird until you know me well enough."
"You're an interesting character Evangeline." She smiled brightly, perching her sunglasses on her nose. "I like you."
She began walking back towards the school, turning to me. "I have one condition though."
"What is that?"
"Don't make me fall in love with you." I rose an eyebrow, leaning against the railing of the stair case.
"Why not?"
"Because then you won't be there when I need you." She stopped short as a earthquake rocked the school. Our eyes locked and she inhaled deeply. "The Professor!"
Evy's POV
Logan and I, along with Storm, ran into the Professors office. "Professor, are you okay?"
Gabrielle was on the floor, looking like she was about to hurl and taking deep breaths. "J-Jean-"
"Get to Alkali Lake." Charles exclaimed.
*****
"I can not see a thing." I hissed. Storm turned to me, nodding. Her eyes turned white and the smoke cleared rather quickly. "Thanks Storm."
"Anything for my sisters daughter." I flinched at the name of my father, walking out onto the shore. "Evangeline, is this you?"
There were random rocks floating in the air. "No, not at all." I replied, pulling my hair out of its bun. "Storm, look over there."
"Logan!" She screamed. "Look!" The three of us ran over to find Jean unconscious on rocks. "Where's Scott?"
I looked at the unconscious woman, inhaling deeply. This wasn't the Jean that Logan had fallen for. I knelt down, touching her hand and gasping. "Phoenix." I whispered, jumping backward out of alarm. "We need to get back to the school."
We made our way back to the school, and I immediately set off to look for Gabrielle. She was sitting in her dads office with her back to me. "Gab? Are you alright?"
She turned to me, her eyes a completely different color then normal. She opened her hand to reveal a small orange flame. "I have a new power." She grinned, and I breathed a sigh of relief. "I can control fire!"
"Is your dad alright?" Usually, anytime I found the two of them in the same room I was always worried about Charles.
"Yeah. He's down in the infirmary with Jean and Logan." I really wanted to tell someone about Jean. I knew from the moment I saw her that she wasn't right in the head. "Are you okay Ev?"
"Yeah. I'm fine. I should probably-" I opened the door to find Charles staring at me. "Go to my room."
"No no dear, I need to talk to you. Gabrielle, please leave us and return to your quarters. Evangeline will join you later." She simply nodded, kissing her fathers cheek and shutting the door behind her. Charles eyed me warily. "What did you see?"
"She is pure chaos. I do not trust her Charles. Logan is going to fall all over again and he is going to break." I whispered.
"Do not tell anyone else what you saw. Go and find Logan." I nodded, quickly filing out of the room and running down the hall to find Logan unconscious and Jean walking through the door.
"Jean." I whispered. The two of us stared at each other, and I slammed her against the wall. "Do not do this."
She pushed me aside roughly, and I stumbled into the room. "Logan wake up." I whispered, patting his cheeks. His eyes snapped open and his breathing became eradicated. "Logan-"
"Jean? Jean!" He shot up, stumbling out of the infirmary. "Jean!"
"Logan, what have you done?" Charles voice boomed through the hall. "She's left the mansion, but she's blocking my thoughts."
Gabrielle suddenly came out behind her father, laying her hands on his shoulders. "I know where she is." She was wearing an Xmen uniform and tossed one in my direction. "You've gotta put this on," She tossed an uniform in my direction. "And I'd start warming up that destruction if I were you."
I could already feel the anger pulsing through my blood as Logan, Storm and I made our way out of the mansion. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and found Logan smirking at me. "What are you smiling at?"
"You." I blushed warmly, sitting down next to him as Storm started driving the Blackbird to Greys house. "I'm kind of wanting to see you in action. You remind me of that witch.."
I literally bit my tongue so hard blood came out. I wiped my eyes of their tears and chuckled. "MALEFICENT?"
The bird opened and turned invisible as Logan nodded. "Yeah. That sounds about right." I looked at the house of Jean Grey and breathed deeply as Charles and Magneto entered it.
Storm, Logan, Gabrielle, and I all stood in a defensive formation in front of the house. "I could totally take on all four at once." I whispered to Logan, locking eyes with him.
He has gorgeous eyes.
"I would love to see you try." Gabrielle closed her eyes and stood there as I took a few steps forward.
"Evangeline Blaire James," Gabrielle snapped. I immediately took a step backward. Whenever she used my full name I knew something was wrong. "Not yet." She closed her eyes again, flashing them back open and eyeing a girl by the door. "She knows you're a class 5."
"Look at them. They're menacing." Storm shuddered and I chuckled. "I'm talking about the big one you idiot." She slapped my arm and I turned to her.
"I'm a class 5 mutant. I can easily take them all down." I turned back to the mutants and took a step forward. "Logan, come inside with me."
"With pleasure." We both ran forward and chaos broke loose. I went for the larger guy first. I lunged forward, clapping my hands together as a black wave of magic left them and hit him head on. "First class 5 I've seen in a while." One of the enemy mutants called out.
I entered the house just as Storm was thrown through the window. Evangeline. CHARLES! No child. Do not come in here. No!
I screamed as I was thrown against the ceiling along with the whole house which was now levitating. "Evy!" I slowly turned my head, feeling Logans fingers lace with mine. "That-way-"
He, dragging me, made his way to the open door. In the kitchen was Magneto on the floor. "Charles!" He yelled. Logan let out a groan as I watched Jean lift Charles from his chair.
No.Dear, please watch over my daughter.
Boom. The house fell, and Logan with it. I smirked, slowly lowering myself to the floor. "Alright, come on Logan." I replied, trying not to die hysterically of laughter.
I didn't see Magneto take Jean out of the house.
Logan and I entered the sitting room to find Xaviers chair the way I didn't want to see it. Empty. "Please. No." I collapsed, tears burning my eyes. I buried my head in my knees, Logans arms wrapping around my frame. My only father figure, gone.
"Guys, where's my dad?" Gabrielle cried. "I can't hear him!"
Storm stood up, leaving Logan and I where we were. "Evangeline.... Sh.... I'm here." I stood up, feeling Logans arm wrap around my waist. "Come on."
"I'm sorry Gabrielle. She killed him. He's gone." She angrily left the house, standing in the middle of the street. She buried her head in her hands, releasing a painful scream which hurt Storms ears. "I'll go get his chair."
When I got next to her outside, we both whipped around. I clapped my hands, and she released a wave of fire. By the time we were done with it, there was nothing left of it. I nodded, satisfied as we made our way to the Blackbird.
****
We didn't have the memorial service until the next morning. When we got back to the school, I immediately started crying. "Evy," Gabrielle called softly. "Come with me to my room?"
"In a moment," I sobbed. Storm followed Gabrielle back into the school, leaving us alone. "Logan-" I felt two arms wrap around my frame and hold me close as I cried even harder. Now let me remark, I was controlling my touching past power at the same time. That's what you call extreme multi tasking. "My only father figure is DEAD.''
"Sh..... It's alright. Why don't you go and get to sleep?" Smiling slightly, I nodded as he set his forehead against mine. "I'll see you in the morning."
Whenever Logan was around me, I literally felt ten times safer. Step one of making me fall in love, make me feel safe. "Goodnight Logan." Laying my hand on his scruffy cheek, I gently kissed it. "Thank you."
I turned the opposite direction, walking down the stairs and into the main hall. Knocking on the door, I entered the room. "Showers open, your bag is on the bed." Gabrielle called very monotonously. Raising an eyebrow, I saw her on the bed with papers and books scattered around her and her laptop in her lap. At least, I thought it was hers.
Looking around the room carefully, I realized where we were. "Dad's room..." I faltered as more tears burned my eyes as I stared at her. "What're you reading?"
"My dad's diary," She replied, playing with the end of her braid. "Before he was paralyzed. Did you know him and Magneto were best friends? He trained Eric!" I chuckled, pulling my hair out of its ponytail and running my fingers through it.
"Not the slightest clue." That's new.
"Evangeline, from the time I was six years old I started asking questions about my mom because she was never around. He never told me about her, and always refused the more I asked!"
"Gab, you seem to be forgetting something." I said, rummaging through my bag to get my night clothing out and my toilet trees.
"What?"
"Babe, he loved 2 people before he was paralyzed. McTaggart and Raven. Raven was and still is a mutant. Mctaggart was a human FBI agent. Which one seems more likely to have gotten your powers from?" Pulling her pen out from behind her ear, she waved her hand and the lock on the door clicked. The lights darkened slightly as she stared at me with her dark eyes.
"What is your point Ev?"
"You need a DNA test."
