"Alright, Danni, I have the first letter made up. Time for the circle." Harry said, walking up to me as he held long pieces of grass in his hands.
"Kay," I replied, picking up my bundle. "Wanna start on the last letter, or do you wanna help me make mine?"
"I'll help you. A circle shouldn't be that hard to make." Harry shrugged.
"Right. Says the guy that could barely make a letter in the shape of a number five." I joked.
"Shut up," Harry chuckled. "I'm not gifted like you."
"I have the smarts and you have the voice." I winked.
"Sounds legit." He smiled.
I rolled my eyes jokingly and started laying down the bits and pieces of grass in my hands. I started at the bottom, making thick lines where it would outline the letter like Harry had done in the first one. I then grabbed more grass and started on the next row, doing the same thing I had done before.
I took a minute to glance up at Harry, who was directly across from me, setting down pieces of grass and concentrating on every step. I quickly looked away as he looked into my eyes and smiled.
"What's so funny?" He asked, wearing that crooked smile.
"Nothing," I said, shaking my head. "Your just so into this right now."
"Well, if we wanna get off this island we gotta try something." He told me.
"That's true." I agreed.
Then I thought for a minute.. I thought about what it would be like if we actually did manage to get off this island. What would we do if we ever got back?
I imagine that Harry and I would be together, hopefully. But he has his band to go back to, and his family, and actual friends. I have nothing but my mother to go back to. Nothing but my mom, and the lonely house we live in. My best friends and others aren't even alive anymore. The whole senior class- My family - was gone. Never to be seen again.
I could feel myself starting to tear up as I thought about these things. I looked down at the ground again as I bit my lip, trying not to make a sound.
"Danni," Harry said quietly, joining me at my side. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah," I sniffed, quickly wiping the tears away. "I'm fine."
"It's okay to cry, babe. I'm not here to judge you."
"No, I know. I just, I can't. It's time for me to be strong now." I replied.
"Even the strongest person lets out a tear every once in a while." Harry whispered, wrapping his arms around me. I nodded and continued to work on my letter as Harry loosened his grip on me.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, still concerned.
"No, I'm okay. Thanks, though." I said, shaking my head.
"Okay." He nodded, before moving a little bit away from me and starting on the next letter.
I looked up to see him working fast, laying down the grass piece by piece. He was working harder than I have ever seen him work before. I could tell he wanted to get off of this island, and I didn't blame him what so ever. I wanted to get off of this island too.
When everything was finally finished, I turned to look at Harry, who was standing up beside me and admiring the work we put into this project.
"Well, seems how the raft was a bust, this better work." Harry chuckled.
"Ohhhh, yeah. There's no way I'm going back into that water ever again."
"Good, then your keeping your promise." He laughed.
I laughed as he brought me into a hug and kissed the top of my head. We stood there for a minute before moving away from each other and grabbing the pair of glasses we needed to start a fire. It was starting to get dark, and this would be the perfect time to light the letters.
I quickly set the letters on fire, having a bit of trouble considering it was starting to get dark. But I managed to light them all, leaving a huge target for people to find us.
"This should work." Harry smiled.
If you don't already understand what the two of us had done, I will tell you. We wrote the letters "SOS" in the sand with a bunch of grass from the woods on the little island. We then lit them on fire, just in case some helicopters came by or just in case someone was actually looking for us.
"Let's go in the hut," Harry suggested. "It's getting cold."
I followed him into the hut, where I sat up straight and looked outside the little opening that we called a door.
"If this works," I began, looking back at Harry. "What are we going to do?"
He shrugged. "I guess we'll be back home, and we can go back to living our normal lives."
"But it won't be normal. It will be for you, but not me. I lost all my friends on that plane, but you still have your band and your family back home to look forward to."
"You have your family, too."
"I have my mother, Harry." I said, interupting him.
"Well, you also have me. When we go back home, that won't change anything between the two of us. Just because we're getting out of here, doesn't mean I'm going to leave you. Your still going to be my girlfriend when and if we get off this dump. I promise you."
I looked at him for a minute before smiling and saying, "I think that sounds swell."
"As do I, babe." He chuckled, bring me into his lap.
"We're getting out of here." I whispered.
"Yes," He said. "There's no way we won't."
"How do you know for sure?" I asked.
"I don't. But I'm hoping, and I know that if we stick together, we will get out of here."
"Okay," I said before adding, "Plus, your the worlds biggest heart-throb. I'm sure there's a ton of people looking for you right now, at this moment."
"Possibly," He laughed. "But I don't care about being the worlds biggest heart-throb anymore."
"Then what do you care about?"
"There's just one thing at the moment."
"Oh, really? And what's that?" I asked.
"You." He said. I smiled up at him and kissed him on the lips.
He really did care about me, and I cared about him. He was the only thing I cared about at this moment too, and once again, this was one of those times where if I could pause this, right here, right now, I would. And I would live in it forever.
