Sorry for being gone for a couple weeks. I took a break for my birthday and the week after that it completely slipped my mind. But now I'm back and kicking. Get hyped for the next chapter! (Also Felix is back yay!)

~Self Defense Slipper~

I tugged open the door to David's father's car and tossed my backpack onto the seat. Though David and Cody had made up I couldn't get the face he'd made as we left out of my head. "Thanks for picking me up Mr. Martinez." I smiled pushing the image away.

"No problem (Y/N). You're practically another one of my kids." He chuckled starting up the car as David and I buckled our seatbelts. "I called your dad and let him know I was picking you up."

"Alright."

"He's still working late tonight so you can stay at our place with David if you're more comfortable with that."

"Really? You don't mind?"

"Of course not, honey. Are you okay with (Y/N) hanging around for a bit, David?"

"That's fine. We'll both probably pass out when we get home anyway." David giggled. After our laughter died down we both sighed, falling back against the seat cushion.

"David?" Mr. Martinez adjusted his rearview mirror. "Are you sure you don't want to go see a doctor? You might have the flu. (Y/N), I could call your dad and let him know you need to see a doctor as well."

"But Dad, my nose isn't running and I'm pretty sure I don't have a fever." David tapped his finger against his thigh.

"Yeah, neither of us got much sleep. I'm sure we're just sleep-deprived."

David nodded, slapping a hand over his forehead. "I'm just tired, I have a headache, and a policeman almost ran over me this morning."

I tensed at his words having completely forgotten. David's dad swerved on the road. Luckily, no other cars were around. "What?!"

"Totally forgot that happened. That guy was a jerk. Who does he think he is?! He just crashed into David and yelled at him!" I clenched my fist letting the anger from before consume me.

Mr. Martinez shook his head holding back a string of curse words I could guess. "I'll give him a piece of my mind next time I see him. Or I'm gonna report him."

"Okay..." David mumbled getting cut off by a yawn. "He was pretty weird. I can't believe he's the chief."

As David finished his sentence we pulled up to his house. Grabbing all my belongings I pushed open the car door and stepped out, a big gust of wind pushed the hair out of my face. Having my hands full I kicked the door closed and stepped onto the grass. "I know both of you think you're fine but if you checked your temperature it'd make me feel a lot better."

David squeezed his backpack against him and nodded. "Oh, and the bruises are gone." He casually lifted his arm letting his sleeve slide down. I pulled up my t-shirt sleeve slightly, confirming the bruises on my arm were still gone. Mr. Martinez looked taken aback.

"Um...are you sure they were bruises?"

"Honestly, I don't know."

"We can talk about it later, both of you need to rest. No goofing around, just sleep."

I nodded and thanked David's dad again heading towards his front door. "Thanks for bringing me home, dad. And for fixing my PC." David padded over to me after waving his dad goodbye and pulled out his house keys. I watched as the car sped away.

"You're PC's fixed?"

"Yeah, my dad fixed it."

I hummed drumming my fingers against my backpack as David twisted the key in the lock. He lazily nudged the door open. "I can't wait to get a nap in."

"Same." David smiled, tossing his bag on the ground. I kicked off my shoes as David pulled on his slippers.

"Want me to sleep on the couch?" I turned toward the living room.
"Nah. We can share my bed. Like when we were little." He smiled.

I giggled. "I think we're both a little too big to share your tiny bed."

David grabbed my arm, pulling me up the stairs. "Come on, we can lay opposite ways."

"Fine." I sighed a smile on my lips. Truth be told I'd be too scared to sleep on the couch alone. As soon as we reached his room he closed the door and unbuttoned his jacket. "Being home alone is creepy."

"Is that why you decided to stay with me."

"Maybe," I muttered. "Don't flatter yourself."

I jumped on his bed, his comforter flying up around me. David climbed in after me snuggling up on the opposite side of the bed. "Night."

"But it's not nighttime." My eyes drooped closed as the warmth of David's bed and the smell of his blanket lulled me to sleep.

BANG!

I practically jumped out of my skin. As did David. We turned, meeting each other's eyes with the same fearful expression. No one else should be here. More noises from downstairs. David stood up slowly. "Dad?!"

I slid off the bed following David as he turned his bedroom doorknob and stepped into the hallway. More loud noises echoed up the stairs. David stopped in his tracks shoving me in front of him. "Way to be a man..." I muttered, rolling my eyes. Spinning in a circle in the middle of the hallway I searched for some kind of weapon.

"What are you..."

"Something to defend ourselves, idiot. Just in case."

"You're right...uh..." David ran back to his room emerging with a slipper and tossed it to me.

"A slipper?" I raised a brow.

"It's all I have." David sheepishly shrugged.

"It'll do..." I sighed and slipped around the banister. "Stay close."

"Yep."

Halfway down the stairs, I called out. "Hello?" The stairs creaked as David placed a foot on the stairs. I lowered myself just far enough so I could see into the kitchen. "No ones here..." I whispered.

More creaking sounds from the living room as David and I silently pressed ourselves against the wall of the stairway, praying to god we weren't gonna die. David grimaced beside me squeezing his eyes shut. I bit my lip holding the slipper ready in my hand.

A familiar figure rounded the corner. Black ripped jeans and a blue and white baseball tee, Felix cocked his head to the side. "Oh hey, David-"

I chucked the slipper in my hand at him before he could finish his sentence. "You dick!"

Felix reeled back, rubbing his face. "Jeez, what the hell..."

David let out a long sigh of relief and I crossed my arms defiantly. "You scared the shit out of us! Why didn't you say anything?"

"Well, I figured David was asleep. I didn't know you went home with him, (Y/N)." He shrugged a hint of jealousy in his voice. "Tobias said David was sick and I had nothing else to do so I figured I'd come to check up on him."

"Well, I'm going back to sleep." David turned on the stairs.

Felix chuckled tossing the slipper back to me. "Wanna nap down here on the couch, (Y/N)? We can watch a-"

Two hooded figures stepped out from the living room. Felix gasped backing up until his ankles touched the stairwell. I placed a hand on his shoulder pulling him as far back as possible. "Felix..." I mumbled under my breath.

One of the figures pulled a syringe out of his hoodie pocket already filled to the brim with eery yellow liquid. "Let's take care of the girl first. Seems like the easiest target."

The other chuckled deeply. "Then we can get serious."
