I didn't see it coming.
"Ah!" I yelped as something collided with my shoulder, causing me to drop my folder full of photos I had taken over the last few years. The pictures flew onto the sidewalk while people walked past, not caring to help as I got down on my knees.
"Oh, I am so sorry!"
I glanced up and saw a tall, slim figure leaning down in front of me. The man was about my age, maybe a year or two older. He had light brown hair and bright blue eyes, an apologetic look flashing across his young face.
"I was going too fast. I was in such a rush I didn't even notice you until it was too late. I'm really, really sorry. I'm just incredibly late, otherwise I'd never bumped into you," He rambled on as he helped gather my photos.
I smiled at how cute he was. I could definitely get a sense of nerd coming off him, but at least he was a really adorable one.
"It's alright," I chuckled, smiling widely at him. "I am pretty short. You're not the first person to not notice me."
My hear skipped a beat when the guy gave me a grin, complete with unbelievably cute dimples. Who the hell was this guy?
"You're not that short," He denied, shaking his head.
I laughed. "Oh, you are a terrible liar."
He laughed along with me. Man, how could his laugh be even better than his smile? He handed over my photos and I placed them back inside my folder.
"Still, I am sorry. I hope I didn't ruin your pictures," He said, furrowing his eyebrows in concern.
"I'm sure they're fine," I reassured him as we both stood up. "If I need to, I can just reprint them. Nothing unfixable."
"Okay, good," He sighed in relief.
I tuck my hair behind my ear. "Wait, aren't you late for something?"
He stiffened, his face suddenly morphing into realization and trepidation. "Oh, god. My boss is going to kill me."
"Better come up with a really good excuse," I told him, joking.
"Yeah, I'm sorry but I have to go," He rushed, starting to back up.
"Go," I said, motioning him to leave. "Save your job."
He gave me an adorable parting grin before running down the sidewalk, towards where he needed to go. Just as he left my sight, I realized I never got his name. Wonder who he was. Maybe I'll see him again some day.
I started back on my way to the coffee shop, CC Jitters. I bought one coffee with cream and one hot chocolate with cinnamon. Ten minutes later, I entered the police department and headed towards where the detectives desks were.
I smiled as I saw Detective Joe West hunched over some paperwork. Walking over, I silently placed his coffee in front of him before taking the seat next to him.
