The Beginning of the End

Chapter 3

Hinata yelped in surprise and backed away from the zombie. He looked around for the fire extinguisher with a rising sense of panic. With a sinking feeling in his stomach he realized.. he had left the extinguisher by the restroom when he had run into Iwaizumi.

By then, the others had become aware of the monster. "Hinata!!" yelled Tanaka, tossing the boy a small waste basket.

Hinata grabbed the trash can, swung it at the monster, and then ran to the others. The zombie's head dislocated from the impact but it still advanced. 

"W-what should we-e do!" cried Asahi. That's when Daichi raced out from the back of the store, the fire extinguisher in his hand. He hit the zombie's head repeatedly until it was nothing more than a pulp.

Everyone stared in horror at the scene, there was blood and flesh splattered everywhere as well as some stained on Daichi.

"We don't have time to stop and stare!" yelled Nishinoya, gaining everyone's attention. "Let's hurry up and block the doors!" Another zombie was walking towards the entrance as he said this but Tanaka ran and kicked it back, shutting the doors immediately after.

The zombie got back up and started pushing at the doors, a few more joining in from behind. Daichi and Nishinoya hurried to help Tanaka keep the entrance shut.

"We have to barricade the doors!" demanded Sugawara. "Come help me push these shelves to the front!" He ran to one of the stands, Iwaizumi helping him move it to the building's entrance. Tsukishima and Kageyama hurried to another stand, pushing it in the same direction.

"Help me cover the windows!" exclaimed Oikawa, looking towards Hinata, Yamaguchi, and Asahi for assistance. Kunimi was busy clearing the way for the stands to be pushed as there were items that had fallen off the shelves, covering the floor.

Yamaguchi and Oikawa were hovering over one of the stands as Hinata looked around for something he could use to block a window. He decided to look into the building's storage closet and couldn't find anything of use. He began to panic and settled on grabbing a dust pan, it seemed durable enough.

He then looked through the drawers of the register counter and pulled out duct tape. He secured the dust pan against the window with shaky hands.

Hinata felt frightened of having to encounter more zombies so he used all of the tape to cover the window. He was so preoccupied that he hadn't realized that everyone was done with fortifying their areas.

"Oi, what the hell is that supposed to be!" remarked Kageyama. Everyone was looking at Hinata, disappointed and confused looks on their faces.

Hinata got flustered and tripped over his words "I- well.. um! I couldn't find anything of use so I thought that'd be okay enough to block the window!"

"Dumbass! If they broke through the glass a dust pan wouldn't stop them from getting through!" Kageyama gave the orange haired boy an evil eye. Hinata gulped.

"Now now, lets all calm down..." said Suga. Tanaka laughed, "You probably just let your fear get to ya! Not to worry, your senpai's got you!" He walked over to Hinata with boards of wood.

Hinata wondered how his friend acquired the material and then saw that one of the shelves had been disassembled. Yamaguchi and Oikawa had broken down a stand to obtain the boards.

"S-sorry" muttered Hinata, still slightly shaking from earlier's panic. "It's fine Hinata, just try to be smarter next time" sighed Daichi. He turned away and left to the restroom to try to clean the blood matted on his body.

The other boys walked away to Kunimi, who had gathered the snacks the gas station had. Only Hinata and Tanaka stayed behind to redo the window's protection.
