The sun shone through the trees, cascading ripples of light among the forest.
Hinata immersed himself in the scenery;
the vibrancy of the trees and flowers, the low susurration of crickets and birds, green and golden hues infused Hinata's eyes with luscious color. He momentarily forgot about the darkness in the world.
Kuroo wanted the group to stay in the forest for a day in the off chance that Nekoma and Bokuto and Akaashi would appear. The other boys had immediately agreed, feeling slightly guilty. They had been delayed in leaving the athletics store so that Daichi, Yamaguchi, and Iwaizumi could be nursed back to health.
Though the three boys were in better condition, Daichi was still ill, infection weakening his health. Kuroo and Suga had to help him on the journey to the forest.
Hinata and Yamaguchi had left the group and were settled at a distant river as they had to use the bathroom.
The sound of the creek's water streaming past was soothing, consistent unlike the shattered world they lived in.
A blinding shimmer in the water caught Hinata's attention, he walked into the shallow creek to the glimmer and felt his breath hitch.
Submerged in the water was a cracked gaming console, its screen glowing a faint blue.
A vivid image flashed in Hinata's mind, Kenma.
Hinata felt his throat constrict. Presentiment made his palms clammy and his heart rate quicken. Hinata felt winded and his breathing became heavier, as if he had just been punched in the gut.
"Ya- Yamaguchi!"
Yamaguchi rushed to Hinata, splashing water as he ran into the stream.
"What's wrong are you oka-"
Yamaguchi's eyes widened at Hinata's trembling hand, holding on to the broken device.
"We have to... We have to show the others."
Hinata nodded in agreement and the two raced back through the forest, getting nicks and scratches from the trees in their haste.
"Guys you won't believe what we.." Hinata scanned the trees looking for his friends "..found..."
Except for the boys' backpacks and weapons, the area was empty.
Eerie silence lay thick in the forest, emphasizing the absence of friends. Hinata could hear the blood rushing in his head and the spastic patter of his heart.
Dry blood stained the mossy floor and the surrounding branches were broken and cracked, as if there had been a scuffle.
Hinata felt a sense of panic and turned around to Yamaguchi, only to find that the freckled boy was missing too.
"Yamaguchi? Where are-"
Hinata was cut off as a large burly hand covered his mouth, a cold piece of metal pressed against the back of his head.
A middle aged man with shaved pink hair emerged from behind a tree with Yamaguchi, his mouth covered as well, a gun aimed at the back of his head.
A third person appeared, a chill ran down Hinata's back. The stranger was wearing a mask which had an uncanny resemblance to Nekoma's ace, Yamamoto.
