The boys awoke at dawn, just as they had agreed to do.
Hinata rubbed his eyes and stretched, his body sore from sleeping in an uncomfortable position.
The others were already awake except for Oikawa and Yamaguchi, who was struggling to wake up. Tsukishima shook his shoulder lightly, attempting to get rid of the freckled boy's grogginess.
Oikawa didn't receive the same gentle awakening. Iwaizumi walked over to him and poured water on his face.
"Ahh!" exclaimed Oikawa, jumping up and shaking the water from his face. "Iwa-Chan, what was that for!"
Iwaizumi shrugged, "You were taking too long to get up Crappykawa, so I decided to hurry things up". Oikawa pouted in response. "You could've done it more nicely!" he said.
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes and left the restroom. Hinata following out behind him.
More zombies had shown up overnight but not enough to push away the barricades. Hinata shivered and turned his attention to the boys.
They were standing around in the gas station, eating a snack or drinking water. Sugawara noticed Hinata and handed him a bag of chips along with a water bottle.
"It's the only kind of food that's here except for candy" sighed Suga. "I wish they had something more filling."
"It's okay! I'll still enjoy it!" reassured Hinata. Suga gave a sad smile and nodded. He noticed Yamaguchi and Oikawa coming out of the restroom and made his way over to them to hand them food as well.
"Now that everyone's here we'll discuss what we're going to do" said Daichi. "Kunimi is going to lead us to an athletics store..." he turned to the boy.
"Yeah.." replied Kunimi. "It'll probably take us around 20 minutes to get to the store from here."
Everyone shifted uncomfortably from the thought of having to walk out in the open for so long. The boys had no way to protect themselves. The fire extinguisher was no longer usable as it had been dented. If it were to be put in to use again, the pressure would cause it to explode.
"There should be an opening to the sewers not too far out from here. We could travel through there instead" suggested Kunimi. "It's across a bus stop, we could make it there in maybe.. 7 minutes?"
Iwaizumi nodded "It'd be safer to go underground. Most likely there'll less of those monsters down there."
"But how are we supposed to protect ourselves on the way there?" asked Suga nervously. He didn't feel comfortable with the group going out unarmed.
The boys looked around to see if there was anything that could be put to use. Hinata wondered what would be most effective.. then he remembered when he had gone inside the supply closet.
"There's a broom in there" he said, pointing to the supply room. "Couldn't we break the spikey end and sharpen it into a spear or something?"
"How are we supposed to sharpen it without a knife?" asked Oikawa, tilting his head to the side.
"Oh..." replied Hinata, feeling like he had messed up once again.
"It could still work" said Daichi walking over to the supply room and coming out with the broom. "It's better than having nothing" he stated, breaking the the brush off from the pole.
"Who's going to hold on to it?" questioned Nishinoya, looking at the stick warily.
"I will." said Daichi.
"Are you sure? I can hold on to it instead if you'd like" offered Iwaizumi, holding a hand out.
Daichi gave a small smile "I'm going to do it. I don't want anyone else to have blood on their hands."
