I stare at my parents.
"How did they not notice?" I think to myself.
"I hope Jake is ok. His voice sounded awfully raspier than when he usually has a cold." says my mom.
"Yeah, and that boy never gets colds!" says my dad.
"Don't you guys think that's odd?" I say a little too loud.
"Yeah. But I think he will be ok." says my Dad.
" Go get ready sweetheart, I understand why you might be worried but you and Jake are going to be late for school, so chop-chop! Go get your bag ready!" says my mom as she forces a smile.
I get my bag and jump onto the school bus. My mouth falls open when I look down the rows of seats on the school bus.
I look from the bus driver to the video game characters in the seats of the school bus.
" Get to a seat and buckle up Kid." says the bus driver.
"Bu-But-" I started to say.
"Hurry up, they're not going to bite you!" he interrupts.
I walk down the aisle very slowly looking for a spot without video game characters. I keep walking until I reach the very back where my friends Samantha and Alicia are huddled. The main reason I, Samantha and Alicia are friends is that we all have brothers who LOVE to play shoot 'em up, so I knew why they had terrified expressions planted on their faces.
" Did Anthonie and Luke turn into their video game characters?" I ask in a hushed voice.
"Yes," answers Alicia.
Samantha just nods. We stare straight ahead silently for a long minute. Then Samantha says,
"Did your parents notice?"
"No," say me and Alicia in unison.
"It's really weird," says Alicia.
"It's like you think your parents would notice that their child grew wings overnight," I say.
"This happened once in 1919 January 1st, and Last night it was 2020 January 1st," I say.
"Did you get any other information?" Asks Samantha.
"Ya, the article said that an Asteroid hit the Luna 101," I say, surprised that I remembered the name.
"Wait, you guys! How is it possible that the people turned into their video game characters in 1919, there were no computers and definitely no video games, not even arcades!" Says Alicia.
"I didn't think about that," I say.
Samantha moans and says, " I feel like we are figuring it out but I also feel like we are not understanding."
I look at the people around us chatting and acting like it is a normal day, shall I say in the world of Shoot 'em up.
Me, Alicia and Samantha get through the beginning of the day without anything suspicious ( Besides the fact that 85% of our school is video game characters). Teachers ( just like our parents) don't seem to notice anything different about their students and none of our teachers are video game characters so far.
"I can't believe we have gotten through half of our day!" Says Samantha
"Yeah!" I say
I have to remember to keep my mouth shut because whenever I agree to something the bad thing usually ends up happening. We walked down the hallway that leads to the lunchroom. I look down at my feet at the worst time because I bump into Samantha.
"Hey, why-" I start to say but then I look up and see why she stopped.
In front of us is the lunchroom as usual, with video game characters (only usual since this morning) but instead of being mixed up with the rest of the kids they are all sitting at 4 tables that have been put into a circle and in the middle, I gasp, is Mr. Lenru, our english teacher. He was always a mean teacher but I never thought he would be so cruel to lead the video game characters. Well maybe you're thinking "But he isn't a video game character so how could he be that bad?" well as we approached a table close to the circle of tables I can tell that he is a video game character. He looks pretty similar besides the large green gash on the left side of his face. I pull out my lunch from my paper lunch bag feeling pretty stupid that I am just watching video game characters plan a rebelion like I am watching TV. Then Samantha pokes me in the arm and points forward to where the video game characters are. There they are painting pieces of cardboard with red paint brushes. Alicia takes her glasses out and looks at the cardboard.
"It says..." She gasps
"Join us and Luna 101 is the best." Says Alicia
"Wow, they are really taking this far!" Says Samantha.
"Wait! Look at that big piece of cardboard that Mr. Lenru is painting!" I say.
I start to read aloud as he paints in every letter.
"We... are... The... Clan" I thinking he is done, am about to point it out to Alicia and Samantha but before I do that I realized that Mr. Lenru is still painting letters underneath the larger ones! They read,
Join us now
"This is insane!" I say way to loud because the second I do-
"NINA! DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WHAT WE ARE WRITING!" yells Mr. Lenru
The whole cafeteria (including the video game character) stare at me. Samantha lets out a small grown and plops her head on to the table.
Trying to sound brave I say "No."
"GOOD! THEN GET BACK TO EATING THAT LUMP OF WET BREAD!!"
All of the video game characters start to laugh.
"What are we going to do?" whispers alicia.
" I have an idea but it is kinda crazy!" I say
"Spill it out!" says Samantha and I start telling them my plan.
