We get out of The Train and head to LA. We walk until we come to a street that I recognize, my street.
"Why are we here?" I ask Ivy.
"Because your house has no video game characters it will be a safe place to talk" she says.
"Ummm...Ivy? There is something you need to know" I wait for her to look at me before going on.
"My brother is a video game character" I say staring at my shoes.
"Well, we can go to plan b then!" She says.
Suddenly her face starts to go pale.
"Ivy? Are you ok?" I ask.
"No, I must be wrong." She says mumbling to herself.
"Ivy, I hate when adults do this! Just tell us!" Says Alicia putting her hand on her hips.
"Well, you know how Nina is a descendant of the Crimson Sisters?" She says slowly.
"Mhhhm" I say staring at my shoes again.
"Well, your brother is your brother so that means that he is related to you which means that he is also a descendant of the Crimson Sisters. Which means he still has magic in him. Says Ivy biting her bottom lip.
"Wow"Says Samantha.
"Yup, sooo... we are gonna have to rethink our plans, thankfully, we have a small headquarter here so we can stay the night." Says Ivy.
We head for a while longer and by the time we get to the headquarters my feet are aching.
Ivy leads us around one more corner and in front of us is the "small" headquarter.
It is an old sorta rusty victorian house, it looks like the size of 3 school buses standing on there back wheels.
"Come in" Says Ivy.
She lead us into a shabby old living room with a grey carpet and worn out leather couch.
"You don't look impressed" Says Ivy looking at the 3 of us.
"Well the main headquarters was much fancier!" Says Alicia.
"How ungrateful." Says Ember.
"Is upstairs... better?" Asks Jayden.
"Yes, it is" Answers Ivy.
She leads us up the dusty stairs and turns left at the top, leading to a ton of doors.
"This one is yours..." Says Ivy pointing at Alicia and then gesturing towards a door.
Alicia hurries over and opens the door.
"Much better!" She says, walking into a shiny room.
"Here is your Samantha" Says Ivy.
Samantha walks into her room which looks equally shiny.
"This one is yours!" Says Ivy gesturing towards me and pointing at the second to last door on this side of the hallway.
I open the door and am not surprised to see it looking almost identical to the room in the cave hideout that I occupied while staying there.
"And this last one is yours Jayden." I hear Ivy say from outside my door.
I turn to my closet, and see my clothes from L.A in the closet. Suddenly a feeling of guilt drops down into my stomach making me sit down on the bed. An image of my parents' faces swirl around in my head. I cry out. The image is so sharp as if they were really there. They are both smiling looking at me, wearing a proud face that I feel I don't deserve. I realize how much I miss them, a tear falls slowly down my cheek. I try swallowing the knot in my throat, but have no success.
"What's wrong?" I hear a voice say from the doorway of my room.
I look up and see Jayden standing there, looking concerned.
"Nothing," I sniffle, hating how my voice gives away that something is wrong.
"Do you mind if I come in?" He asks.
I nod and then realize that that is saying that I do mind,
"I mean you can come in." I say.
He walks in and sits down on my bed next to me.
"Now, I know something is wrong." He says.
"Fine." I say pausing for a moment before speaking again.
"It's just... I..."
Maybe I should just shut my mouth, I think I don't want to sound like a wimp.
"Come on, I promise I wont judge you." He says as if he has read my thoughts.
"Well... I just sort maybe miss my... family" I finally say.
"We all do. I remember it was really hard for me when I first came here, even though I was really young." He says
"What? I mean, sorry. I just always thought that you had been born into it." I say.
"Well, now you know." He says staring at his hands.
"Hey" I say, putting a hand on his shoulder, and then putting it back on my lap.
"I'm sorry. It is hard." I say, my turn to comfort someone.
"Well," He says exhaling loudly.
"I should probably go and get changed before dinner." And then he's gone.
"Meow" I hear.
"Oh, hi Reya." I say to the sleepy kitten who had just popped her head out of my bag.
"Boys are complicated, aren't they?" I say to her.
It is probably just my imagination, but she seems to nod back to me. I laugh and head downstairs for dinner with Reya following me closely behind.
Title
I wake up early the next morning to the sound of Reya meowing at the birds that are sitting on the windowsill of my room. I roll over and look at my clock. 6 in the morning, great. I roll back over onto my side and smash my pillow on top of my face. After laying motionless for around 5 minutes I feel 4 little paws on my leg.
"Fine. I'll get up." I say to Reya.
I put my pillow to the side and sit up. Feeling the messy braids in my hair. I stretch and give Reya a little pet. Her snake tail closes its eyes and sticks it's little tongue out, testing the air. I lift up the covers and get out of bed, my feet land softly on the fluffy carpet. I walk over to my wardrobe and pull out a pair of jeans and a comfy long sleeve shirt which I slip on. I put on some shoes, not wanting to walk around barefoot in this dusty house. Then I walk over to the mirror staring at my messy hair. Suddenly the mirror changes and my reflection turns into me with my hair brushed. I blink. My reflection returns and I see my messy hair once more. I pull out my hair ties and brush my hair. Once more the mirror changes and I see myself with my hair up in a braided bun. I shake my head and turn around to leave when the mirror beeps.
"What?" I say.
The mirror's reflection changes again. And this time I see a reflection of myself with a waterfall braid. I sigh but head back to the mirror and braid my hair into a waterfall braid.
"There" I say looking at my braid in the mirror.
Then the mirror changes once more, this time showing me with red lipstick on.
"No more" I say and once more turn to walk away.
BEEP!!!
I turn slowly on my heel, and see in the mirror a reflection of myself with a clear lipgloss on. I grind my teeth but put it on anyway.
BEEEEEP!!!!!!
I hear as I turn for the 3rd time to leave.
"What now?" I say yelling at the mirror.
My reflection changes and there I am with a very light layer of blue glitter on the top of my eyes.
"Last thing, then I'm leaving." I say applying the glitter.
"Looks like someone dressed up!" Says Ivy.
"Talk to the mirror. I didn't want to." I grumble.
"Ohhh! That's where my mirror went!" Says Ivy.
"What? That thing is yours?" I say.
"Yes! And it's my prized possession! How else do you think I get ready in the morning." She says.
"You get dressed... but never mind, get it as soon as possible, please." I say.
"Oh I will!" Says Ivy, and keeping to her word she runs up stairs to retrieve it.
Ember comes down the stairs to join us at the table.
"What was her deal? She was running as fast as if she was being chased by a lion!" Ember says pointing behind her.
"It's no big deal, she just was retrieving something that she... likes a lot." I say.
"Ok... how come you're down here so early no one else is down here but me and Ivy. Alica, Samantha, even Jayden! None of them are awake." She says.
I point towards Reya as my answer.
"Ahhh, I see." She says.
We sit in silence for a while, until the sound of a door opening and closing, only to open and close again breaks the silence.
"Come on sleepy heads! Wake up!" I hear Ivy yell upstairs.
I hear a door open and Alicia's voice answering Ivy.
"I've been awake getting ready!"
"I can tell," Says Ivy, and I can imagine her looking Alicia up and down.
