THREE HOURS LATER

It was 1:37 AM when we finally reached Harry's family beach house. I couldnt tell you how many summers we had spent here, playing at the beach all day, having sand fights, splashing eachother nonstop, rolling around in the sand till we looked like snowmen. Then, we would go inside and cuddle up like little kids do, and sleep our sunburns and exhaustion off. To be honest, those were the best days of my life. And thinking back on it now, Harry had a crush on me that whole time? Unbelievable.

I slowly got out of the car, letting all of the memories sink in. The whole place was a mess, sand everywhere and palm leaves or driftwood scattered all over the place. The cream colored panels on the outside walls looked exactly the same, maybe a tad worn. The windows were boarded up, no doubt from the recent hurricane. The beach was completely torn up. Where there was once a long, private beach that went for miles, was now a huge cliff at least fifteen feet down. My heart broke to see this place that held so many memories, be in such horrible condition.

"Uh, Maddie? Why don't we go look inside?"

I pulled my attention away from the damage and looked up at Shane.

I sighed and said, "Sure."

WE bounded up the steps, two at a time. I burst through the front door calling out his name.

"Harry? Harry? Haz? Come on Harry."

There was only silence.

'Harry, seriously."

I walked into the living room overlooking the ocean, his favorite room. Empty. My pulse started to race and my mind was searching desperately for an answer. But the worst part is that there was none.

"This isnt a joke."

I ran through the bedrooms frantically searching for him to find him hiding and this to be a big joke.

There was no answer at all. I couldnt take it. I sank to the floor and started to cry. The sobs intensified and they quickly began to rack my shoulders.

"If he's gone, I-I dont know what I wi-will do."

Emma came over to give me a hug and comfort me, but I pushed her away.

"You know," I began. "We used to talk about where we would go if we ran away. Of course, we always planned to run away together, if we needed to. But thats beside the point. And he said, 'I would come here because its the place that I have been the happiest.' And then we moved on to little kid topics like our little island a couple miles away and how we played pirates there..." My voice drifted off and my shoulders slouched.

"Oh. My. God. Thats where he is!" I leapt up and dashed out of the house.

"Come on, guys! We have to ride the Jet Skis to the island!"

I ran down to the dock that had some how managed to survive the storm and untied the Jet Skis.

My eyes scanned the beach looking for Em and Shane to find them jogging over, about twenty feet away. "Lets go!" I urged.

They arrived at the dock and I quickly explained what the plan was. They were to follow me on one jet ski and i would take the other. When we got to the island, I wanted to go see Harry by myself.

We departed and I pushed the speed up to sixty miles per hour. I know it was fast, but I was desperate.

We finally reached the island and I hopped off the jet ski, leaving it propped up on the beach. I ran through the island, dodging palm trees and drift wood. When I had circled most of the island, I got to our "Private Beach" as we called it. In the little alcove of six huge pieces of drift wood that Harry and I had built together, sat a curly haired, emerald eyed, silly goofball. My best friend.

"Harry!" I screamed out.

He looked up from the little tide pool and brought his eyes to mine. His face lit up like a diamond and he stood up.

I took off running, wanting nothing more than to be in his arms.

Harry started to walk towards me, then jog. By now, he was sprinting full out, apparently having the same wish as me.

Wow, this was so clichè.

We met eachother, and threw our arms around eachother.

"Maddie." He sighed.

I snuggled my head into his shoulder and breathed in his scent. Polo 3 and lemon detergent. It had been a little over five hours, and I already missed it.

"Look at me Maddie." I met his eyes.

There was no sound coming from his mouth, but Harry mouthed something.

"Colorful?" I said.

"I didn't say colorful, you fool." He grinned at me. "Its a little late for that joke. And I think You know what I said."

I love you.

Then we crashed our lips into eachothers and all I could think was three words. If your wondering what they were, well , I think you can guess.
