Chapter 17 - Happiness

Y/n was already on her way to school by herself, since Tsukishima left early telling her that the team was having a blocking practice. She shrugged the thought and walked past the school gate, once again being crowded by guys all over.

She smiled awkwardly and struggled to walk past them again.

'It really is difficult to get to class without Tsukishima, huh?' she thought to herself.

Soon she felt someone grab her hand, pulling her out of the swarm of guys.

"Hey, Y/n." 

She looked up to see the angelic smile on Yamaguchi's slightly red face. 

"Hey." she smiled back. "Why are you here? Kei told you had blocking practice." 

"Yeah, he told me to keep an eye on you, since he knew this would happen." he giggled and pointed to the crowd of guys.

"Well then, let's go." 

She told and held his hand, walking ahead and guiding him to the class. He blushed hard, looking at their holding hands and squeezed her hand a little, walking ahead and pulling her towards the staircase instead, going upstairs to the roof of the school.

"Yamaguchi, why did you bring me here?" she asked a little confused.

She stared at his back, looking on as he slowly turned around to face her.

"Happy birthday." He showed his angelic smile again, while his hair softly swayed to the soft breeze.

"O-oh...how did you know?" she blushed nervously and looked down.

"I just do." he said and reached out in his bag for something, taking out a small cat plushie and handing it out to her. "Here. I thought you'll love this since it's cute." 

She gasped as she looked at the plushie, holding it with a smile before hugging him tightly.

"Thank you! I love it!" she said, almost tearing up.

He was taken aback at first but eventually wrapped his arms around her and hugged her back.

Later they were back in the class, Y/n kept looking at Tsukishima from time to time, puffing her cheeks as he was looking at his book and scribbling the notes.

During the lunch break, Y/n went over to Tsukishima and stood in front of him, and he quietly looked up at her, pulling his headphones down.

"What?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.

"Do you know what day it is today?" She crossed her arms and glared at him.

"I don't." He shrugged and put his headphones back on. "It isn't something important if I don't remember about it."

His words pierced her heart. She knew it's of no big deal for him. Yet she expected him to at least wish her as a good friend. She started to tear up, turning around and running out of the class.

Yamaguchi has been looking at what was happening and went to Tsukishima.

"Tsukki, why'd you say that? You were the one who told us it was her birthday today." He frowned.

"I just thought it would be fair to inform you all. That's all that there is to it." He said coldly.

The volleyball practice that day didn't last too long and the boys were told to leave after an hour's practice. Kiyoko asked Y/n to stay back and help her to clean up the gymnasium since the boys already left.

"I'll walk you home, Y/n." Kiyoko smiled at her.

"That's not needed, Kiyoko-senpai.." she laughed awkwardly.
