Chapter 18 -Heartbroken

It was just a few days before the inter-high. The boys were busy practicing early in the morning and after their classes. 

Today after the practice, the coach treated the boys to have meat buns. Y/n just tagged along since she wants to walk home with Tsukishima. After having a bun for herself, she stood out for some fresh air while looking at the sky. Everyone else was eating inside the store when Tsukishima walked out as well and stood beside her quietly when she turned her head after sensing someone beside her.

"Why are you here?" she asked.

"What do you mean? I want to go home." He said while looking ahead.

"Y-yeah but.. the boys are still in so I thought-"

"Let's go."

He said and started walking, with her following him closely. 

"Aren't you a little nervous?" she asked out of the blue, earning a raised eyebrow from him.

"Since the inter-high is drawing close."

"It's just a mere game." He shrugged and looked ahead. "I don't know why everyone is being serious about it."

"True but, you know, everyone seemed to be passionate about this. And I really hope you guys make it through...it might be the last game for the third-years'"

"It's just a club." He said coldly and she frowned.

"Excuse me?!" she furrowed her eyebrows and looked at him as she stopped in her tracks.

He stopped walking after noticing her tone of voice and looked back, frowning back after looking at her expression.

"Am I wrong?"

"Are you? How can you even say that it's just club? It's about the thrill and the passion that these boys have for it. They worked hard just to bring Karasuno back to where it used to be again!" she snapped with anger.

He just turned around and started walking without responding while she stared at him in surprise.

'Did he just ignore me? '

She huffed softly and walked behind him and unlocked the door once they reached home, going upstairs and slamming the door after entering her room. 

Tsukishima just glanced at the door before going inside and throwing his bag on the bed and laid down when his phone rung. He held the phone in his hand to see Yamaguchi calling him.

"What is it?" Tsukishima asked with a somewhat tired sigh.

"I'm in front of your home. Can you come out for a bit?" 

Tsukishima sat up straight and widened his eyes.

'He doesn't know I'm here with Y/n...' He thought.

"Why are you here at this time, Yamaguchi?"

"S-sorry Tsukki, I wanted to talk. Please."

"Fine."

Tsukishima stood up and sighed as he walked out of his room and descended downstairs, not thinking much of the outcome if he finds out, thinking to tell him everything in case he asks.

He then walked out of the front door and looked at Yamaguchi standing in front of his home.

"Oi! Yamaguchi!"

Tsukishima ushered him over while he walked towards him with his hands in his pockets. Yamaguchi widened his eyes as he saw Tsukishima walk out of Y/n's home.

"Tsukki.... why are you.. why did you walk out of Y/n's home? What were you doing there?"

"I live with her." He shrugged. "She don't have a family and she's scared of living by herself."

"Wait! if you both are living together, d-d-did something happen between you both?" Yamaguchi frowned and glared at Tsukishima.

"Haa?" Tsukishima raised his eyebrow and stared at him.

Meanwhile Y/n was searching for Tsukishima and couldn't find him. She walked downstairs and saw the door slightly opened. She sighed, thinking he might be sitting outside the steps again like how they usually did. She walked close to the door to hear Tsukishihma and Yamaguchi talking. 

"Haa?" she heard Tsukishima's voice and peeked outside at them to see  what was going on.

"I asked if something happened between you both. A girl and guy living together in one house together..." Yamaguchi looked away and clicked his tongue.

"What the hell are you going on about, Yamaguchi?" Tsukishima glared at him.

"We both sleep in different rooms. How did you think otherwise?" 

"Because, I thought you might like Y/n too.." Yamaguchi looked down and sighed.

Tsukishima scoffed and looked away as he crossed his arms, Y/n smiled a little to herself after hearing what Yamaguchi said. But her happiness didn't last long.

"If you think that I do, you're wrong." He smirked.

"Wait s-so you don't?" Yamaguchi looked at him.

"What makes you think that? She's not my type. Plus, I got no time for something vile like that."

Hearing this broke Y/n's heart into two. She stood there as she felt tears fall down her eyes. Unable to move or think right, she looked down as she wiped her tears before gathering the courage to go back upstairs to her room and laid down on her bed as she stared at the ceiling.

'He never liked me....did he?'  she thought and teared up again. 'Well, I might have got my hopes up for no damn reason...'

She turned to her side and took her phone, looking at her father's messages as she cried, before calling him up, only to be redirected to the mailbox.

"Hey. I just wanna let you know that... I'm ready to live with you in Tokyo. I'll come back once the inter-high volleyball matches are done. Love you."

she said and placed her phone back on the nightstand and stared at the ceiling before crying her self to sleep.

Tsukishima was done talking to Yamaguchi by the time Y/n fell asleep. Like always, the opened the door to her room and checked on her to make sure she was asleep. He smiled and closed the door after, going to his room and falling asleep.

The next morning, Tsukishima woke up and got ready for school and went downstairs as he waits for Y/n so they can walk together to school. After quite sometime when she didn't come downstairs, he called out to her, only to be left unanswered. He then went upstairs to her room only to be greeted with an empty room.

"Did she leave without telling me?" He clicked his tongue and walked out the door, taking a spare key and locking the door before walking towards the school by himself.

What he didn't know was Y/n left early to school to avoid talking to him since she was upset. She decided to keep her distance with him till the day she leaves to Tokyo.
