and still she walks into an ocean of darkness

The week following the unfortunate Kai incident passed in absolute bliss for Scarlett and Ace.

While their sarcastic conversations continued, they were peppered with brand new salutations for each other. 'Ambrose' and 'psycho' took a back seat, while the words 'Ace' and 'Scarlett' or 'Aeson' and 'Sky' were spoken with increased frequency.

Slowly, the pair got used to being comfortable around each other, despite the world knowing nothing of their union.

Woods Towers still found its proprietor referring to his PA by her last name, but the hours after dark and the wee hours of the morning found more fond terms of address.

On one particular Saturday morning, Ace found the new stepped out of his room to find the new woman in his life seated near the window on the landing, the book in her hand forgotten as she gazed out into the world that was slowly waking up.

No matter what, Ace always found Scarlett awake before him. It was a first for him. All the women in his life had awoken after him. Eve's constant desire to steep, even during the day had used to annoy him, but now, he found himself wanting Scarlett to sleep.

He crossed the landing over to her and sat near her, placing a soft kiss to her forehead. He was always conscious of touching her only when she welcomed it.

"Morning, Sky," he said against the soft skin of her face.

"It is," she said, nodding to the morning sky outside, painted in a light, bright blue, resembling her eyes.

Their voices were always soft in the mornings, but they were especially gentle on this day, as were the shy touches of their fingertips, trailing across each other's skin.

He put his arms around her and pulled her against his chest as they watched the world below them.

"I always find you awake before me," he whispered into her ear, making goosebumps erupt from her ear, all the way down to her toes. She smiled and pulled his strong arms tighter around her.

"Is it a contest?" she asked, her voice as Soft as his.

"No," Ace's voice rumbled through him, "But I am intrigued as to why," he said, showing his thirst for knowing everything and the reason behind it.

"Hmm," Scarlett hummed, like an invitation, for him. to guess.

"Could it be that you find magic in the quiet of the day before the city is awake?" he ventured, gently kissing the curve where her neck met her shoulder.

Scarlett exhaled blissful, shaky breath. She sighed contentedly.

"Or is it something else?" he asked, kissing a different spot on her shoulder.
