The hotel lobby that Scarlett stood in gleamed before her eyes

The hotel lobby that Scarlett stood in gleamed before her eyes.

It had grand Grecian style pillars and brilliant chandeliers that hung from the high ceilings.

She admired the architecture as she stood in her royal blue dress, holding her handbag in front of her.

People in the hotel eyed the pretty girl marveling at her surroundings as they passed.

"Sky!" she heard an enthusiastic, familiar voice echo through the lobby.

Scarlett turned to look.

Cassie, beaming like a flower seeing the sun, ran towards her and threw her arms around Scarlett's hips, the highest she could reach, and hugged her as hard as was physically possible for an average six-year-old.

"Hi, Sky!" she said, brightly, smiling up at Scarlett.

Scarlett found herself smiling despite herself. "Hi, Cassie. Fancy running into you here," she replied, looking down, "What are you doing here?"

Cassie stepped back. "Oh, it's my Dad's birthday today, so we're picking up his cake. It's a pineapple upside-down cake. That's his favorite."

This fact, Scarlett knew, having spent many hours poring over the likes and dislikes of Calvin Mitchell, Cassie's father, to pick out a birthday gift for him.

"Do you like pineapple upside-down cake, Cassie?" Scarlett asked, sweetly.

Cassie thought for a moment and then, nodded. A little while later, she shrugged. "I like cake," she said, decidedly.

Scarlett laughed. "Me, too, Cassie."

She laughed until that familiar voice touched her ears, her heart, her toes. Her eyes almost closed reveling in the sound of the voice that called, "Cassie?"

She opened her eyes, her heart racing, erratically, her palms beginning to sweat with nervousness.

"Cassie, where are you? Oh there –"

Ace cut his sentence short when he saw who Cassie was speaking to.

He exhaled deeply before walking up to Cassie and Scarlett.

"Uncle Ace, look! I found Sky."

Ace looked down and gave his niece a small smile, nodding. "I see that, Cass."
