Suzannah Collins had worked for Ace Hardwood for five years.
She had met her boss at a few meetings and interacted with him a handful of times.
He was always put-together, calm, collected, confident and intimidating. He demanded absolute respect, despite never actually saying it out loud. When he passed, he made everyone want to stand at attention.
Suzannah, herself, had fought the urge to salute whenever he nodded at her.
Her boss was known for keeping to his meticulous schedules and was such a workaholic that he never missed a day of work, save for the times he had to travel for work. He gave his full effort to his company and expected it of everyone else.
He kept the office on their toes, but he was always a good, fair boss.
That particular day, however, was no ordinary day for Suzannah, or any other employee at Woods Towers.
After hearing what Gretchen told her, Suzannah had gawked for a moment, smiled politely and nodded before power-walking away. When she was out of Gretchen's view, she took off at a run and hastened into her corner of the floor and burst into the office.
Everyone inside jumped and looked at her.
Suzannah panted, heavily as they looked back at her, questioning.
"Ace Hardwood is on leave!"

Ace Hardwood, on leave, awakened slowly.
He thought of the day before and remembered that his Scarlett was back.
He couldn't help the smile that came on to his face.
Eyes still closed, he patted the spot next to him, searching for her.
He couldn't find her.
Eyes opening rapidly, he sat bolt upright and looked down at the bed.
