{ chapter twenty two ~ two loves, one choice }

Queen Mila took a shaky breath before fixing herself on one of the many corners of the large stone castle. She wiped the tears from her eyes, ensuring her cheeks weren't hot and flushed as she composed herself. She wiped down her navy blue and silver detailed dress as she thought her decision through. If only she had longer to decide, however, if she did, she'd probably think of many reasons against the one she had decided on. Of course, there were already many, but more to her decision could topple it completely.

Mila's dark brown eyes glanced up at the sky as she remained at the castle corner. "Mi?" The voice of Edmund Pevensie broke her long and tortuous silence. "I'm fine." She quickly said, wiping any shed tears before he could see them, "Caspian's gone to find Peter and Susan. We're ready." He smiled, taking her hand as the two walked. Mila stood beside Lucy and Edmund, her eyes fixated on the two, she took in their young appearances.

"Narnia belongs to the Narnians, just as it does to a man," Caspian spoke, addressing his people. Mila leaned against Peter's shoulder, her hand clinging firmly to his. The young King held his wife, an arm around her torso as well as her small hand in his own. He could feel her nerves but knew why. They were leaving today. Leaving Narnia forever, and she wouldn't be able to come back. Come back to her home. But Peter knew her home was surely wherever he was. "Any Telmarines that want to stay and live in peace are welcome to. But for any of you who wish, Aslan will return you to the home of our forefathers. Caspian told his people. "It's been generations since we left Telmar." A Telmar man called. "We're not referring to Telmar." Aslan spoke, "Your ancestors were seafaring brigands. Pirates run aground on an island. There they found a cave, a rare chasm that brought them here from their world. The same world as our Kings and Queens." Aslan said, which caused the crowd to gasp and whisper. "It is to that island I can return you. It is a good place for any who wish to make a new start." The whispers began up again, "I'll go." Glozelle was first to speak, "I will accept the offer." "So will we." Caspian's aunt also said. "Because you have spoken first, your future I'm that world shall be good," Aslan told them.

As the tree twisted and turned into a portal, Mila gulped, and her palms grew sweaty. She had to finally decide on the right decision, although she was certain about one, the other was also there taunting and poking at her. "How do we know he is not leading us to our death?" A bystander shouted. "Sire, if I can be of any service, I will take eleven mice through without delay." Reepicheep offered. Aslan's eyes fell on Peter, "We'll go." Peter said, stepping forward as his final act as King, presently. "We will?" Edmund stumbled. Peter nodded, his hand still holding Mila's, "Come on. Our times up." He smiled, as he turned to Aslan, "After all... we're not really needed here anymore." Peter said as he handed his sword to Caspian, the New King of Narnia. Millions of thoughts rushed through Mila's mind. "I will look after it until you return," Caspian spoke, his head bowing. "I'm afraid that's just it..." Susan spoke up. "We're not coming back." Lucy gasped, "We're not?" She sadly said. "You two are. At least, I think he means you two." Peter said. "But why?" Lucy asked, "Have they done something wrong?" Aslan shook his mane, "Quite the opposite, dear one. But all things have their time. Your brother and sister have learned what they can from this world. Now it's time for them to live in their own." Mila could feel tears pricking at her deep brown eyes of wisdom and beauty. "It's alright Lu. It's not how I thought it would be but it's all right." He said, taking his youngest sister's hand into his own, Mila and himself still bound together. "One day you'll see, too. Come on."

As Peter stepped forward, Mila dropped his hand. Which caused the young King and his family to stop. "I love you." She got out through the lump in her throat. "Can you remember that for me?" Peter stared at his wife, "I love you too." He said confused, "Come on, let's go home." The Hopeful Queen shook her head, tears now spilling from her sad eyes, "That's the thing, I already am home." She cried. "Narnia is my home, my love. And when I'm in Finchley, even with you, all I wanted was to be back here." She gulped, "I believe I've known for a while now, and so has Lu." She mumbled, "It's been at the back of my mind but having to think of a decision, I've decided to stay." Peter dropped Lucy's hand before slowly making his way toward his wife. "I don't understand. We're destined." She nodded as she took his hands into her own small ones. "I know, and that's how I know I'll see you again, one day. Even if we're old and grey and you're remarried with children of your own." She sobbed, "It would be selfish of me to ask you to stay, but even if you were willing you couldn't." Peter's ocean eyes now held the salty water of his tears as he held his wife. "I thought you were happy, happy in Finchley, happy with me?" The young Queen nodded, "I was, but not as happy as I am here. And if I can't come back after I leave with you, I'll never forgive myself." Peter shook his head, "Are you sure?" He simply said, "Sure?" She questioned causing him to nod, "Sure, we'll be together again? Are you positive, Mila?" He asked. She nodded, "I can feel it." She whispered through her tears. "It would be selfish of me to force you away from here." He simply stated, his hands moving up to his wife's face as he brushed the tears from her rosy cheeks. "I love you, Mila Pevensie." He whispered as he kissed her softly. "And I you, Peter Pevensie." She mumbled into their kiss. "Remember me." He told her. The young Queen choked back a sob, "As I'd ever forget." She smiled through her tears. Peter glanced at Caspian, who was sharing his moment with his younger sister.

Mila dropped her tight grip on her husband as she hugged the only family she had known for the past years. "We'll see each other again... very soon, I promise." She told Edmund and Lucy as she gripped them so tightly, however, Edmund didn't complain about how he couldn't breathe; like he usually would. He simply hugged her just as tightly back. Susan smiled through tears as she said her goodbye's to the older sister she never knew she needed. "I'll miss our chats, promise you'll look after them." She smiled, "I promise". Susan told the girl.

Mila watched, teary-eyed, as the Pevensies began making their way to the tree. "Peter." She called. Causing the four siblings to stop. The young Queen rushed into the arms of her husband, "Hold me for a moment." She whispered as he held her close, his arms clinging to her. "Mila," he whispered, "Let me look at you." She glanced at him, their eyes connecting and just like that, they fell in love all over again. "I love you." She mumbled once again as she hugged him tightly. Peter placed his head on top of hers, "It's becoming hard to not walk back and take you with me." He chucked through his tears. "I'm surprised you haven't already." She told him. "I love you." She said again, "All of you." The four Pevensies smiled through their tears. "We'll meet again." She told them before allowing them to walk through the portal. They disappeared almost as quickly as they had entered her life.

Mila choked back a sob, as Caspian held out his hand for her to take, which she did before he embraced her into a hug, which caused her to sob uncontrollably. And just like that, the decision of going came back and she regretted the decision she had made. But it was too late now. And anyways, if she had made the other decision she'd have regretted leaving...

Peter Pevensie, now stood in his school uniform, he composed himself as he waited for the train to pull into the station. He held back his tears as he boarded the train. Edmund ferociously searched his bag, "You don't think there's any way we can get back?" He questioned, "I've left my new torch in Narnia." He stated which caused the group to laugh, "Well, I've left my wife." Peter chuckled, before breaking down into uncontrollable sobs...
