{ chapter nine ~ we go together }

"It's only a matter of time," Peter spoke confidently to the Narnians as he announced his plan. "Miraz's men and war machines are on their way." Mila gave an audible sigh as she rested her head against Edmund's shoulder. Peter wasn't making any sense, going into battle with the Telmarines was dangerous, in fact, it was a suicide mission. "That means the same men, aren't protecting his castle." Mila shook her head, "We may have tricks up our sleeves but I'm sure they do also." She mumbled, which Edmund silently agreed with. "So what do you suppose we do Your Majesty?" Two voices replied. "Our only hope is to strike them before they strike us," Peter spoke quickly. "Well that's crazy, no one has ever taken their castle!" Caspian retaliated. "There's always a first time." Mila groaned before standing, she rested her hand on Peter's shoulder. "Peter, I love you but Caspian's right. Taking their castle seems like a suicide mission." Mila stated before Trumpkin spoke, "But we'll have the element of surprise." Mila glanced at him, "Maybe. However, just because we take them surprisingly doesn't mean we have the upper hand! We don't know Miraz like Caspian does." Caspian smiled. "We also have the advantage here!" Mila watched as Susan joined in, "If we dig in, we could hold them off indefinitely." Mila didn't have to look at her husband to know he was scowling at her and his younger sister. He was angry that they had taken the enemy's (his enemy, for reasons unknown) side. "Look, I appreciate what you have done here but this isn't a fortress, it's a tomb." Mila felt the presence of Edmund beside her, "Plus if they're smart enough they'll just wait and starve us out." Mila agreed. "Ed's got a point, there's no escape route in here." She turned to Peter, "We have to go over your plan. Attacking them head on doesn't seem like the right option right now. Nothing has been planned properly." Peter shifted his gaze to his wife. "We don't have time to plan." The Hopeful Queen chuckled. "We didn't have much time to plan the war with the White Witch or the attacks from the Calormen. We still planned and succeeded Peter. Just think this through." Once again his gaze shifted. "If I get your troops in, can you handle the guards?" Mila groaned as she listed to Peter, who had ignored her requests. A sympathetic look came from Edmund, Caspian, and the girls. "Or die trying, my Lord," Glenstorm told the High King, which satisfied him. "That's what I'm worried about," Lucy spoke up, which was often uncommon during battle or war talk. "I'm sorry?" Peter questioned. Mila glanced at Lucy. "Well, you are all acting like there are two options. Die here or die there." Peter scoffed, "I'm not sure you've really been listening Lu." Lucy shook her head, "No, you're not listening. Mila has a point! And are you forgetting who really defeated the White Witch?" Mila frowned. "I think we've waited for Aslan, long enough." Mila smiled at gave a comforting and encouraging smile to Lucy as she watched Peter walk away.

She glanced at her family, then at Caspian and the army, and then back at Peter. She remembered her vows. "I will stand by your side..." she glanced at the man she married. "When do we leave?" She called after him, which shocked most as she was against riding into battle only moments ago. "Leave?" He questioned as he turned towards his Queen. "For Telmar." She replied, slightly confused at how he had forgotten so quickly. "Oh, you're not coming." He simply told her before turning and leaving.

Queen Mila gave a confused look to Edmund as she began walking past the army to follow Peter. "What do you mean I'm not coming?" She shouted as she caught up with him, her voice echoing off the walls, therefore she and her husband's private conversation wasn't so private. "It's too dangerous Mila." Mila chuckled shallowly. "Dangerous? I've fought many wars before Peter!" The King shrugged. "You'll stay here, with Lucy, Mila." He began walking away. The girl scoffed, "Don't walk away from me Peter Pevensie we haven't finished talking yet!" She waited for him to turn around, "I am Narnia's Warrior Queen! I'm the best swordswoman this kingdom has ever seen! I'm riding into battle whether you like that or not!" He failed to make eye contact with her, "I can't lose you, Mila, not like I almost did when we fought the White Witch." Mila sympathised with him, "I fought wars after that, my love. I'm coming with you." Peter expected her to back out when he pulled the "I can't lose you" card. "You're staying here, Mila and that's final!" His voice raised slightly. "You can't keep me here, in this, in this, tomb!" She shouted. Peter turned to her, his eyes falling on his wife, his family, Caspian, and the art which stood a few metres behind Mila. "You'll stay here Mila." He simply stated before entering the darker part of the tunnel. "And that's an order from your King!"
