It wasn't a long journey, but it was tough to remember where the blossoms were. He had to turn around a couple of times, but Sasuke had finally reached the sakura blossoms. He began to search around for Naruto."Naruto!" He shouted, hoping to get any type of response. Sasuke huffed and shook his head. He tried it a few more times, but was unsuccessful in getting any type of response. All he could hear was the wind.
"Damn him. DAMN him." He spoke, angrily. He began to think again, wondering where in the world Naruto could've possibly run off to. Just as he was coming up with another idea, he noticed something. It looked like a struggle between two people.
Training, maybe? Or... maybe Naruto. Sasuke pondered. He then noticed something in the corner of his eye. It was buried in petals, but the glimmer of the metal caught his eye. Was that...?
He needed to get closer. There's no way this could be what he thought. He brushed the blossoms away.
"No... Naruto. What happened?" He said quietly to himself, picking up the idiot's prized possession. His headband. Sasuke examined it, seeing that the cloth around the metal was torn slightly. This wasn't an accident. Something happened to Naruto. Sasuke's heart started to race. He knew Naruto could put up a fight, but, something–someone, clearly got the best of him here. Sasuke began to search around for any more signs of a struggle, any more items, anything.
About 10 minutes passed, and Sasuke had successfully managed to be hot on a trail. Naruto's headband was now tied to his right arm, as he knew better than to just leave it on the ground. He highly suspected these were ninja, as there wasn't much of a dirt trail. He went into the trees, jumping from branch to branch. He would search his surroundings every so often to make sure that he was going into the right direction.
For a ninja, this person doesn't know how to cover their tracks... Sasuke thought to himself as he kept finding broken tree branches, scrapes, and kunai marks on the trees.
Wait, every kunai mark has been straight, precise, and only one mark. This was intentional. Was Naruto marking these trees so someone could be lead to him? He chuckled, his eyes closed and head tilted downwards. Sasuke had to give credit where credit was due. Maybe Naruto wasn't so incompetent after all. He continued, yet each mark became smaller and smaller than the one before. He could still make out where they led, but it was becoming increasingly more difficult. He felt his stomach growl.
"Gah..." He grunted, his hand immediately reaching for his belly. He had eaten breakfast that morning, but it was a very toasty day and he had been on the move all afternoon, looking for Naruto. He looked up and realized that it was getting dark.
It's getting dark. I'll set up a fire and rest for an hour. I'm glad Sakura gave me her bento, let's hope I did ruin any of it with all of my movement. He would think to himself as he descended from the tree he was on, but leaning on it to keep his place. He needed those markings to find Naruto. Sasuke used a simple fire style jutsu to make a small fire, just large enough to light up his area and keep him warm in case he got cold.
He got comfortable and ate some of the bento. It was surprisingly tasty, but he didn't eat all of it, or even much of it as a matter of fact. Just enough for his stomach to stop growling. He put away the bento and closed his eyes. The warmth on his right arm was very noticeable. He could almost feel Naruto's energy emanating off of it. Sasuke took it off of his arm and stared at it. It was... weird that it wasn't attached to Naruto's head. That's where it belonged. It belonged above a starry, bright smile and a dazzling vibrant pair of blue eyes. Sasuke would bring it closer to his face, touching it to his cheek, slowly and almost hesitantly. He could smell Naruto's hair.
"Stupid... Naruto." Sasuke scoffed, snapping out of it and the headband now in his backpack. If he looked at it any longer he wasn't sure what would happen. After about 20 or so minutes, he put out the fire and got rid of any sign he was there. He cut his "hour" break by about 20 minutes. He couldn't wait, and Naruto might be in real trouble. Sasuke would sigh and go back into the tree, trying to feel and see the markings.
"I'm coming for you, Naruto. Fight for me, please." He would mutter, jumping to another tree.
He looked up and saw smoke.
