I set up cupcakes on every desk in my class. I put a tiara on Nia and Katy's desk and a crown on Fred's desk. The light flashing of the bell rung. Students started to walk in and go to there sits. Every student eyes lit up when they saw the cupcakes.
I went up to the board and wrote down 'Happy birthday Katy, Nia and Fred'
I turn around and saw Nia walk in with Mr.Popper and puffy red eyes. She sat at her desk and slightly smiled at the cupcake. But it then into a frown, she hugged on to Mr. Popper some more.
I felt a little sad because Defonte wasn't here for her birthday.
'Okay class, today we have three lovely students that is 7 years old today. Nia, Katy and Fred can you stand up'
Katy and Fred stood up with a big smile on there face and the tiara and crown on their heads. Nia slowly stood up and held on Mr. Popper.
'Okay Everybody on a count of three we will say Happy birthday...1....2....3...'
'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' everybody said. Fred and Katy smiled and said thank you. Nia started to cry, I walked to her and pulled her into a hug. One of Nia's friends; Cindy walked up to her and gave her a hug. Cindy father and Defonte is best friends, they are in the army together.
'It's okay Nia, uncle Defonte will come back' Cindy said. 'How do you know?' Nia wiped her tears. 'I know because my father promise to come back with Uncle Defonte. My dad never breaks his promises' Cindy had a big smile on her face. It looks like she wanted to cry but it seem like she's staying strong for her friend. 'Ms. Phillips can I take Nia to the bathroom?' Cindy asked. I nod 'Take the pass and make sure you don't lose each other'
'We won't' Cindy took Nia's hand and took the pass. Nia gave me Mr. Popper and walked out the door. Mr. Popper smelt like him, I held on to the stuffed penguin and wipe a few tears.
After school I dropped Nia off at Ms. Wilson house and went home to get ready for my outing with Carrie. We are going out to dinner.
I didn't want to put on something to flashy nor loose. So I put on my jeans that made my butt look bigger and a loose shirt with a necklace and dangling earrings. I put on lip gloss, a little bit of eyeshadow and eye liner. I took a couple of cute selfies to send to Defonte.
Carrie texted me she was out front, I grab my phone and keys and left out the door and into her white Audi. 'Damn girl you look fine' Carrie said. 'So do you. Did David know you was coming out dress like that?'
'I had to put his ass to sleep, if you get my drift' she winked at me. I smiled 'Yeah I get you, so what restaurant are we going to?'
'We are going to the Blue Dolphin'
She started up the engine and drove into the road.

'So tell me how you and Defonte met.' Carrie took a sip of her dirty margarita. 'Well we met on the first day of school, I'm his daughter teacher. Defonte just asked me out when he was picking up Nia. How did you and David meet. Was it love at first site, I know you believe in that type of stuff.' I shrugged and took a sip of my sprite.
'No, it was more like hate then turning into love kind of thing. We met the day after you left, I saw him at a party. He was the captain of the football team in a public hearing school. So one day Ms. Clarkson put the class in pairs and I was assigned with David's best friend; William that went to our school. At first I liked William and I had a big crush on him. William invited me to a house party and that where I first laid eyes on my husband' she took a bite of her fish. 'What else happened? What did he do to make you hate him and then fall in love with him?'
'You want all the details?'
I nod 'Yes, I want to know everything. I don't care how dirty it is'
She playfully rolled her eyes 'I hated him at first because he embarrassed me infront of his so called friends. I went home crying. William came over and made David apologize. At first David didn't want to do it because he didn't know sign language until I offered to tutor him. He agreed and during the first two months I catched feeling and he did too. Three months later I got pregnant with Luke and after the first year of college we got married'
'Wow, look at you always trying to be captain Kurk. That's a really cute love story' I ate a peice of my shrimp.
'Thank you. Angel is getting married tomorrow. Did you get the invitation yet?' Angel was my other best friend. The three of us was like sisters back in high school, but when I left we slipped apart. 'Yeah I did. Did you?'
She nod. 'I'm so glad we are reuniting' she said. I agreed.

'Tira can you help me' Nia said. I zipped up her dress and fixed her hair. I fixed my hair and checked myself in the mirror. 'You ready baby girl?' She nod.
We walked downstairs and out the door to my car. The wedding was a hour away from me. When we arrived Nia got excited because of the flowers and Luke. Ever since the fair, Nia and Luke became close friends.
I helped Nia get out the car and once her little feet touched the ground she immediately ran to Luke and hugged him. 'Hey Girl' Carrie said. 'Hey, aren't they so cute' I gave her a quick hug and gave David a side hug. 'Yes, I can tell they are going to date in high school'
'Don't say that infront of her father' We watched Nia and Luke hugging each other.
When we walked inside and took our seats in the middle. During the wedding I was tearing up. Lets just say I'm a sucker for weddings.
After the wedding we went to the after party; Luke and Nia was dancing and the whole time we was there Nia didn't cry because of her father. 'It's been so long' Angel said. She gave Carrie and I a hug before sitting down at our table. 'How are you? What has been going on for the past 7 years' The whole time she was looking at me. Considering that Angel and Carrie stayed together all through high school and college.
'Well I'm a teacher at the top deaf school in the east coast and I'm doing great'
'Is that your daughter. She's so cute' She looks back at a smiling Nia. 'No, she's my boyfriend daughter'
'Where is this lovely man of yours? I want to meet him' I took a sip of my water. 'He is over seas, he won't be back for awhile. But hopefully you will meet him when he comes back.'
Angel slightly frowns 'Oh, well I'm happy your here. I should go see the in laws' she gets up and give me and Carrie a hug before walking to the other table.

'Tira do you think daddy will like Luke?' Nia said while I'm trapping her in the car seat. 'Why wouldn't he?'
'Because I like him and daddy said he would scare away boys I like'
'Well baby girl your dad will like Luke and if he don't then call me' she smiled. 'I will'
I closed the car door and walk to the front. I drove Nia to my house because it was to late at night to take her over to her grandmother house. I let her borrow my shirt and hair scarf.
I tuck her in my bed 'Tira can you be my mom. I know you and daddy are not married but I want you to be my new mommy'
'Nia I can never replace your mom. But I will be a good friend and you can come to me for any problem'
'Okay. Goodnight' I gave her a hug and a kiss on the forehead, 'Good night' I walk to the guess room and laid down.
