A month laterIt was the morning of the first day of school. Landry was laying there staring at her ceiling dreading the day. She finally saw she laid there for 5 minutes and got herself in the shower. Across the way in the country side of town Bucky was hitting his snooze button for the 5th time.
He was up late trying to put together his lesson plans for each grade. It took him forever trying to remember everything from college and what Rhodes told him about each grade gym class requirements. Bucky finally dragged himself to the shower.
Landry was standing in front of her mirror as she stood there wrapped in a towel.
"You can do this Landry. This isn't like high school we are all adults now. He clearly doesn't remember you so it's all good. Just mind your business."
She repeated all that to herself as she got her self ready. Once she was ready she made her way to the parking lot of her apartment complex and got in her car. Bucky was sitting on the edge of his bed with his bathroom waste basket in between his legs puking.
He already had puked twice in the shower. Winnie came in his bedroom she came over to the side of the bed he was on. She moved it and made him look at her.
"Mom? How did you get in my house?" He said
"Baby when you moved out I made myself a key. I'm worried about you. Now this isn't you my sweet boy. Swallow back the nerves and the anxiety. I brought you breakfast that I made." Winnie said
Bucky finished pulling on his shoes then went downstairs. Once he was done eating he finished pulling himself together. Winnie met him at the door.
"Baby I know this isn't what you wanted out of life. Being back here in Rosemont living here in your aunt Darby's old house. But sometimes things happen for a reason. Maybe there is a reason why God brought you back home." Winnie said
"Mom why would he give me all this talent just for it to be wasted on coaching and teaching gym." He said
"Honey.." Winnie said as he walked out to his truck.
On his way to school he stopped to get gas and energy drinks. Landry was already at the high school in her classroom. She was standing on the little stage in front of her classroom.
"Ms Landry Dallas
English Lit 201"Is what she wrote at the top of her white board. She began to write out the instructions for her first day of class assignment. When she was done she put her notebook on her desk and headed up to the teacher's lounge.
She had her back to the door as she was stirring her coffee. Bucky walked in his mood instantly changed when he seen her.
"Ms Dallas. Looking good this morning loving the outfit." He said as he leaned against the coffee station.
"Give it up. I already said no." She said
"I don't give up that easily." He said
"You should." She said as she started to walk off.
"But I want you.." he said as he put his coffee cup in the Keurig.
"Take a cold shower." She said
Bucky quickly grabbed a donut and followed her out. "If you join me." He said as he caught up to her.
"In your dreams." She said
"Oh baby we are doing dirty things in my dreams." He whispered in her ear when they got to her classroom.
"Seriously coach Barnes..I've said no." She said as he leaned against her desk.
"Is it because you have a boyfriend. You aren't married cause you are Miss not Mrs." he said
"No I don't have a boyfriend." She said
"Then come on what harm can one night with me do. I can rock your world baby." He said
"You aren't exactly my type." She said
"Oh..so you swing the other way. I'm down with that I can do two girls at once." He said
"Oh my god no. I meant I don't date jocks. There are nothing but assholes." She said
"Ouch..that hurts." He said as he holds his chest.
"Sorry I'm sure there is another single teacher around here who would be more than welcome to coddle your bruised ego." She said
The bell rang. "I'm not giving up on this date." He said as he picked up his coffee cup and left.
"You should." She said as she watched him leave.
Bucky had freshmen for first period he passed out his syllabus's for the class. He did his roll call then let them go change for exercise. As they were all changing he leaned against the mats on the wall.
"Things happen for a reason you just don't know what that is yet." He heard in his head he shook the memory of this morning.
"What if your wrong mom." He whispered
Landry had gone over her syllabus with her first period. She explained how the new class works and passed out the textbooks. Once she was done with the first day stuff she had them write a 3 paragraph essay about themselves.
It was so she could see what all they remembered from freshmen English. By the end of the day she no longer needed to read off her syllabus she had it memorized. Bucky was laying on the couch in the Athletic clubhouse.
Sam came in and tapped his foot. "Hey man how was the first day?" Sam said
"Awful. I hate this..this is exactly why I tried so hard to play pro. I didn't really want to do this but I had to declare something. And I didn't want to be like my siblings so here I am." He said
"Hey in two weeks we start the season Barnes. Maybe once that starts you will start to feel better." Sam said
"Yeah maybe." He said
"Let's get ready for practice." Sam said as he helped him off the couch.
