Two months laterIt was now October and mid term grades were due. Landry had her classes do a mid term exam earlier in the week. Bucky got up to the door of his office to see a sticky note.
"We need to talk. Ms Dallas."
"About damn time." He whispered with a smile.
He sat his stuff down on his desk then headed down to the sophomore hall. When he walked in she was making notes on her board.
"Ready to say yes." He said as he leaned against the door frame.
She looked over at him as she rolled her eyes.
"No..actually I need to let you know that three of your players failed their mid term exam. So they won't be able to play next Friday." She said as she walked to her desk.He followed her to her desk. "You teach sophomores right? There is a big 10 on the hall doors." He said as she handed them their exams.
"Yeah darlin these are on the JV team they wouldn't even be playing next Friday." He said
She looked at him confused. "We have two teams Ms Dallas. A JV for the lower class men and Varsity for the upper class men." He said
"Oh..well I don't keep up with sports so I didn't know." She said
He pulled her to him. "But speaking of next Friday's game. It's our district game that determines if we go to play offs. And I could use some company after the game. What do you say sweet darlin? Join me?" He said
She sighed as she pulled away. "You don't remember me do you?" She said
Bucky started to get a sick feeling that he has already hooked up with her. "Have we met before? Like at a party or college?" He said
"Yes. We went to high school together. But no to the party question and I attended Vanderbilt in TN." She said
"So um.." he said confused.
Landry looked down then looked up as a tear fell. "You use to call me Ms Smartypants ring a bell now?" She said
He closed his eyes. "I'm the nerd that tutored you the whole reason you even got to graduate." she said
"Landry Dallas.." he whispered as he looked down.
"So my answer is no it will always be no. You treated me like crap and had your friends call me the same nick name. And I didn't even get a thank you at the end of high school. So please stop flirting with me.." she said
"Landry I'm sorry..I." He said
"No save it. It just goes to show that unless the girl had a cheer skirt on or she was popular she is memorable but a nerd like me who single handedly is the reason why you even got to graduate isn't worth anything." She said as she walked away and opened the door to her classroom.
Bucky picked up the exams. "Landry I am sorry. But don't you dare sit here and act like you know damn thing about me. I've had a shit year I wasn't suppose to be here but my football career took a bad turn and now I'm here the last place I want to be." He said then he walked out.
Landry took a deep breath then went back to writing her notes. Bucky got up to his office he buried his face in his hands.
"Just try James. You can do better than a C. So we don't have to do this again." Landry said
"No. And I have asked you to stop calling me James. I go by Bucky even the teachers call me Bucky. And I don't need anything better than a C smarty pants I'm a football player I don't plan on doing anything but play football." Bucky said
