(14) Introducing Ryder James

7 months later.

"Bucky wake up..please wake up." She said

"Mmm baby what's wrong we just went to bed three hours ago." He said when he saw the time on his watch.

"I think my water broke." She said

He jumped into the sitting position he pulled the blanket back. He felt in between her legs.

"You sure it's not pee." He said

"I don't know.." she said as she scooted off the bed.

When she stood up big gush of liquid hit the floor. She looked down at the floor then at him.

"Uh-oh." She said

"Uh-oh indeed." He said as he found in his phone.

He called his mom who called his grandmother. Both of them were at the house in minutes. James came in with Bucky's brother Brandon who was an EMT.

"What the hell is going on? This isn't a family reunion for godsakes! My fiancée is in labor and her water broke all over the floor." Bucky said as Brandon's wife Ellie came in who is a labor and delivery nurse.

"Start moving the coffee table boys. Get blankets and towels James. You need to remember we live like 45 minutes out side of the city limits. By the time we get there she will be having him in the parking lot." His grandmother Junie Barnes said

"Go get her." Brandon said

"Well she isn't going to like this." Bucky said as he went upstairs.

Bucky helped Landry down the stairs breathing hard from all the pain. Ellie and Winnie helped her lay down.

"Brandon don't you be looking at my girl's stuff. That's my girl and my stuff." Bucky said as he sat behind her.

"James Buchanan!" Winnie said

"What?" Bucky said

Brandon hooked her up to a blood pressure machine that he keeps for off duty purposes. Ellie put on gloves and checked Landry's cervix.

"Have you been having contractions before your water broke?" Ellie said

"We went to bed three hours ago. She was in pain but it was bearable so we didn't think anything wrong." Bucky said

"What's wrong Elle?" Winnie said

"She's already at a 8 and half cm." Ellie said

"See James we wouldn't have made it." Junie said

Bucky covered her back up. "I don't care. It's weird that all my family is in the living room with my girl's lady parts on full display." Bucky said

"Ow!! Ow!!." Landry cried out as she squeezed Bucky's hand and turned to the side. He rubbed her back. "Now they hurt?" He whispered

"Yes..ow ow." She cried again.

Thirty minutes later Ellie got down on her knees to get into position. "Okay push Landry..push as hard as you can. I know this hurts." Ellie said

"Ahhh!! Oh god this hurts!!" She screamed out as she pushed holding both of Bucky's hands.

"Okay we are doing good Landry. Give me another push." Ellie said

Landry beared down again. "I can see his head Landry come on push again." Ellie said

Landry pushed one more time. "Okay Lan we got his head now we just need his feet. So one big last push." Ellie said

Landry pushed one last time. A tiny cry erupted in the room. Brandon clamped the cord Bucky cut the cord as Ellie cleaned off their son. As she laid him on Landry's chest.

"It's a boy. Congratulations." Ellie said then she went to finish getting the placenta out of Landry.

Landry looked at their son. "Little Ryder James Barnes." She whispered

Bucky cupped his head. "Welcome to the world little guy." He whispered

"Let's get you two checked out." Brandon said as he called in a ambulance.

Bucky helped her get dressed and they got Ryder dressed. After being observed for a few days at the hospital. They were able to go home. When they got home their friends came by to meet the newest member of their crew.

At thanksgiving just a week later Winnie and Bucky were watching Landry fed Ryder.

"You remember when you asked me what would be my reason to come home? Why would I have all this talent to coach?" Winnie said

"I do.." he said

"She was your reason. And as far as your talent goes. You took the team to state this year as their coach. They hadn't been to state since you graduated. Those boys including your nephews look up to you James. And now you have him to coach as well. You have a son James and he is going to need you just like you have always needed her. She has always been your rock and I think you needed to come home to find her again to put your world back in balance. She's always been that person for you." Winnie said

He smiled at his mom. "That is true mama. She is like my saving grace." He said as he kissed her cheek.

Winnie smiled as he walked away James came up behind her. "He's gonna be okay." James said

Winnie whispered "James..I don't feel..so.." and she hit the floor gasping for air.

Bucky turned around and ran as did the other boys. "Mama!!" Was all anyone heard.

Brandon went into work mode."mama look at me." He said as he began to call in for a ambulance.

They quickly rushed to where they were having dinner at the local recreation center in town. They all booked it to the hospital Bucky tried his best to drive the speed limit with Ryder in the car. After they all waited around for what seemed like hours.

The doctor finally came out. "Winnie Barnes' family?"

"That's us." James said

"You are her husband?" The doctor said

"Yes.." James said

"Mr Barnes I'm Dr Charlie Davids it appears that your wife has suffered a heart attack. Has she been experiencing any high blood pressure problems or stress?" Dr Davids said

"She is a retired school teacher. She's been home for the last two years. Other than being a mother to 6 kids and a handful of grandkids she hasn't exuded any high stress levels to me." James said

"Well she should look into seeing a cardiologist just to make sure nothing is out of the norm. We are going to keep her over night for observation." Dr Davids said

"Okay. Thank you doctor." James said

He sat down buried his face in his hands.

"Dad.." Dylan said

"Your mother is the strongest person I know. And I can't lose her she is my grace. She holds us all together." James said

"We will figure it out dad." Aiden said

"Um.. James. My brother Oakley is a cardiologist he took over my dads practice when he got sick. I can get you in with him." Landry said

"Thank you sweet darlin. I would appreciate that." He said as he squeezed her hand.

"You three go in first. You all need to get him home." James said

Bucky took Ryder's car seat and they headed up to her floor.

"You are my saving grace baby. And I love you." He said as they rode the elevator.

She smiled at him. "I love you too." She said as it dinged.

They checked in on Winnie Bucky kissed her forehead. "We need you just a little longer mama. We love you." Bucky whispered then they left the hospital.
