Returning To Highschool

(9) The Cabin

Once they arrived at the cabin Bucky took Landry inside. "I picked out your room." He said as he took her all the way up to the top floor of the cabin.

"Okay." she said

He opened the door to a massive bedroom with a view. "It's away from everybody and you have your own bathroom complete with a big bath tub." He said as he opened the bathroom door.

"Thanks Buck." She whispered

"Baby doll I'm trying here. I know you are skiddish when you said that thing about how you eat gummi bears when you are nervous or anxious I remembered how you were always eating them during my tutoring sessions." He said

She looked down. "But I want you to have fun on this trip too. Don't lock yourself away Landry." He said

"Yeah." She said as he left her room.

She sat down on the bed as the snow began to fall outside. As everyone else came in she could hear them all downstairs. She quietly shut her door and began to unpack.

"Just two weeks." She whispered

Later that night Bucky came up he gently knocked on the door. "Landry." He said but got no response.

He quietly opened the door to see her sleeping with her glasses on and her kindle on her bed. She was asleep on her side he gently took off her glasses and locked her kindle. He gently kissed her temple then laid her stuff on her night stand turned off the lamp and left.

The next morning Bucky found her making breakfast for herself. He came up behind her "Landry what happened to you last night? We ordered pizza and when I came to tell you. You were already asleep." He said

"Buck..don't. I didn't even want to come but you made me. I'm not like them." She said as she made her eggs and toast.

"Landry I wanted you to come cause we are friends. This is the first time in 5 years I actually get to do something like this." He said

She sighed.

"Landry.." he said as she went to eat at the bar top.

She stayed silent as she ate Bucky sat there beside her trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Once she was done she went back to her room with Bucky on her heels.

"Landry you are making it seem like high school again. Nobody else has called you that nick name this whole time." Bucky said as he shut her door.

"It's not about that! It's about how you all are this tight knit group. Delaney fits in cause she is a coach just like the rest of you." She said

"Landry we are trying to include you!" He said

"Oh yeah let's include the nerd. Someone who doesn't understand anything about sports or cheer/dance. The one who is Ms Smartypants." She said

"Landry! You are not a nerd!" Bucky said

"That's not what you said junior year of high school." She said

He looked at her confused. "Care to enlighten me?" He said

She looked down.

"Junior year was the year that prom was themed Sadie Hawkins. You were on probation again from baseball season. I was standing behind you at your locker. I was gonna see if you wanted to go with me...but Shelby Turner was standing there guess she didn't see me. And she asked if you had been asked by me yet cause she thought with us tutoring again that I thought I had a chance. You said no baby doll she is just a nerd." She said

Bucky felt tears welling in his eyes. "Landry..I." She said

"So please don't sit here and act like you dont think I'm a nerd." She said

Bucky walked over to her. "Landry darlin. I am not that person anymore. Can't you see that? Can't you see that I'm trying here to make things right with you. Landry I am sorry I didn't know you were standing there and she probably didn't either. Did you end up going with someone else?"he said

"No..I just didn't go. Or to senior prom." She said as she looked down.

He sat back on his knees as he shook his head.

"I'm sorry." He said

"Bucky!!" Delaney yelled from the living room.

"Yo Barnes where you at?" One of his old team mates yelled.

"You should go." She whispered

He swallowed hard as he stood up off the floor. He kissed the top of her head. "We will talk more later." He whispered then left.

Landry stayed in her room Bucky was quiet and alone in the pool. He was leaning over the side resting his arms on the side. Sam joined him and swam over to him.

"When you are quiet that means something is wrong?" Sam said

"I was horrible ass in high school. I was so damn focused on football that my grades suffered for it. I got paired with Landry this sweet timid girl who has more patience then I have ever seen to deal with me. Not only did I give her a nickname that got out of hand with our friends. I made her feel less than because she over heard me tell Shelby that she was nothing but a nerd. Landry wanted to ask me to junior prom but just as she was about to ask me Shelby did." He said

"Buck we all did things we regret in high school." Sam said

"I was a selfish ass Sam. I didn't even tell her thank you for all the time and hard work she put in for helping me." He said

"But you have now." Sam said

"It doesn't matter. I hurt her Sam I understand why she kept turning me down. Why would she want to go out with me now after all I have done to her." He said

"True. Nobody likes an ass." Sam said

"Thanks a lot dude." Bucky said as he pushed off the side.

"Just saying man." Sam said as he began to swim too.
