"Should we really be doing this? I mean- the assassins and the benefactor are still out there! We've gotten nowhere," Sam argued as I continued to drive. "This is the longest we've been away from the bunker in months."
"Which is exactly why we need to be doing this," I responded matter-of-factly.
We were currently on our way to Yosemite national park, which wasn't that far from Beacon Hills. It had been quiet since the last attack, and I insisted on a road trip. Sam was right, we've gotten nowhere. It wouldn't do any good for us to just sit around and stare at the same words over and over again. We needed a fresh view to kickstart our imaginations again! Jesus, where do I come up with this crap? I've been hanging around Sam too much, I scoffed to myself.
"I still think we should be at the motel research-," Sam tried to say, but I cut him off.
"No! Today we will not be using the 'R' word," I scolded. "The pack is taking a little break, and so are we!"
Sam was rolling his eyes at me, a pout already forming on his face. "Fine," he huffed.
"I think it's a great idea," Cas added from the back with a smile. I met his bright blue eyes in the rear view mirror and winked.
"Cas," Sam groaned, "just because you're his boyfriend doesn't mean you have to agree with him all the time."
Cas cocked his head in typical Castiel fashion. "Is that what I am? Your boyfriend?" He wondered, a small frown on his face.
Sam answered while I rolled my eyes at the angel. "Yes!" He scoffed, throwing his big hands in the air. Cas was still looking at me for confirmation.
"Yeah Cas, you're my boyfriend," I grunted, trying to hide the growing smile at Cas being called my boyfriend.
"Okay," he smiled, the confused frown clearing.
I grinned at him as I reached back for his hand. He seemed to understand the gesture, because he leaned forward and placed his arms around me, letting his head rest on my shoulder. He stayed that way, and I didn't mind one bit. The feel of his warm, strong arms wrapped around me was comforting. Sam accepted his fate and pulled out his laptop, likely researching the national park we would arrive at in the next hour or so.
"Hey- so get this-," he started. Knew it, I chuckled to myself. "Yosemite was designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, and is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, lakes, mountains, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness," he spewed the information like a gps spewed directions. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
"The cliffs were actually made when the Sierra Nevada was uplifted and then tilted to form its relatively gentle western slopes and the more dramatic eastern slopes. The uplift increased the steepness of stream and river beds, resulting in the formation of deep, narrow canyons. About one million years ago, snow and ice accumulated, forming glaciers at the higher alpine meadows that moved down the river valleys," Cas input from my shoulder. Sam and I both looked at him with wide eyes.
"Did you read that somewhere?" My brother asked cautiously.
"No, I remember it. The ice I remember well. To see the glaciers move across the earth, so slowly... and to create majority of the landscapes you still see today... It was and is fascinating," Cas explained. Sam and I looked at each other in shock.
"You know... sometimes I forget you're dating a celestial being thats millions of years old," Sam chuckled.
"Dude- I'm dating an old man," I groaned. "He's older than the glaciers!"
